Broadway theaters will dim their marquees on Friday evening in memory of Tony Award winner and iconic Hollywood screen actress Lauren Bacall, who died on Tuesday at the age of 89.
Bacall, whose film roles and romance and marriage to actor Humphrey Bogart made her a legend during Hollywood's Golden Age, died in New York, where she had lived for several decades.
The Broadway League, which represents producers and theaters, said the marquees will be dimmed for a minute in her honor.
"Lauren Bacall had a distinct presence on stage and screen during a career that spanned decades," said Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League.

(40,416 posts)Been posting this for days. It's pretty much the whole scene, and it's not just the classic tag line, which is not even the best tag line of the scene. When does Bacall turn Bogie in the scene?
Here:
Yup! The best tag line is: "It's even better when you help." Then, there's the whistle thing, for those who miss the real fire in the dialog. It's a mere flourish after the second kiss, when he helps.
This is one of the best. It sizzles. And Bacall was one the best life long feminists. And she's utterly in control here.

(40,416 posts)They only broadcast the end, when the money line is obviously, "It's even better when you help." The line crackles. The whistle line is more of a sigh in comparison.
Just my opinion. But I love that flick, and the whole scene.
