Kudos to Gov. Nixon

You first allowed the locals handle the situation, which is almost always the right thing to do.
When they proved to be idiots in search of a village to shoot up, you made the right decisions.
Your choice of who would be in charge locally was inspired.
You dealt with a potentially deadly and explosive situation very smartly.

Some might criticize you for not moving fast enough, but seriously, what rational person would expect the police to start riots, shooting tear gas at media groups, arresting journalists or having a quasi military response that only made things worse?

Congrats, Mr. Nixon. You done did good. I suspect the people of Ferguson will thank you for it. As will all other rational thinkers.

He's not flashy. He just quietly gets the job done. And I agree with President Obama..."Jay Nixon is a good man".

3. It seems he's not very well-spoken and articulate (I don't know, I haven't heard him speak)--

I don't know why that matters so much to some people. I'd rather have a wise decision-maker than a smooth talker. It seems like he's trying pretty hard to solve this.

but he was the state attorney general from 1992 until 2008, when he was elected governor. I'd say he could be very well-spoken and articulate when it's needed.

4. I rather think the Feds put the screws on him to get things changed

President Obama and Attorney General Holder apparently had their say with him this morning after last night, and now things are changed. Nixon gave a horrible press conference this afternoon; it was defensive, and he was shockingly incoherent on the issues.

But whoever is to be credited for the decision to put the Highway Patrol in charge, I'm just damned glad it finally happened ... and that we can see what truly smart, respectful, and humane policing is about.

Seems to me that every good decision he made he made too late and only because someone forced him to. I think he is clueless and over his head.
