So I don't get the reference.

I'm thinking that Hannity's use of 'The Man' (and I've heard him do such) mime the slang of the 1960's so he can think he's hip and ironic and cool all at the same time. (The truth is that he doesn't even begin to know how to think of himself and will consider the meaning of his existence only on a whim, in a game,.)
