Jackson said officer didn't know Brown was a robbery suspect and he wasn't stopped because of the robbery. SO, WHY RELEASE THE VIDEO?

Ferguson chief just said, "This robbery does not relate to the initial contact w/ Michael Brown."

Jackson just said Brown was stopped because he was "walking down the street blocking traffic, that's it.

Police chief just said: Wilson stopped Brown b/c he was walking down the middle of the street, not b/c of robbery.

Chief now blaming media for the release of store video. Says it is irrelevant to the jaywalking stop. Sigh.

(106,886 posts)I wish someone posed that question - there may be a good investigation / legal reason. Clarification would have been good instead of "you all wanted it".
Not a legal beagle here, but I think the chief just threw his officer under the bus in a way.

(2,752 posts)He said it multiple times. The shooter had no knowledge of the robbery at the time of the shooting. Was in the neighborhood for an unrelated call.

(6,286 posts)First his body, and then his character.
If he stole the cigars/cigarillos/whatever, shame on him. But it is wholly irrelevant and makes the release of the video nothing short of outrageous. Just throwing shit in the air and hoping enough comes down on his corpse to cover it up.

(34,845 posts)With everyone shouting for more information, it's understandable they would throw out what they could. The chief is pretty much indicting the officer as of now, though.

(9,463 posts)Brown at the counter, he is having the confrontation already with whoever was behind the coutter. Maybe Mike Brown was the victim? Maybe Mike Brown felt the clerk was trying to cheat him somehow so he took something, in this case cigarillos?
Also, I want to know if Dorian Johnson actually did admit, on his lawyer's advice, that Mike Brown did take the cigarillos. Why would his lawyer allow him to do such a thing?

(29 posts)Even if the Officer didn't know, the claim will be that Brown fought because he had just committed a crime.

(55,004 posts)this was my thought as well - they are going to say he "overreacted" to the cop because he thought he was busted for the big "strong-arm robbery" and the poor innocent cop who was just asking politely (for the young men's own safety, no doubt) to move to the sidewalk was forced to shoot him dead in self-defense.

Dorian Johnson, the other person in the robbery video and the first person to get out the police brutality version of the story...
