Mission creep? Beyond Kurdish territory, Iraq asks for more US help against Islamic State

As U.S. warplanes tilt the battlefield against Islamic militants in Kurdish-controlled territories, Iraqis in the rest of the country are growing resentful that the U.S. is not intervening more forcefully to protect Arabs who have been fighting extremists for months.

They see the U.S. wading in to protect a favored ally in Iraq's Kurdish Regional Government, but leaving the rest of Iraq to fend for itself since militants in the Islamic State displaced hundreds of thousands of Shiite Arabs when they seized the city of Mosul in June.

"From the beginning, the Iraqi government has asked America to step in to a dangerous situation for the Shiites," said Farid al Ibrahimi, a Shiite lawmaker. "When (the Islamic State) tried to attack the Kurdistan region, the movement by the Americans was so, so, so fast."

The Islamic State is retreating from its advance in the Kurdish north but continues to hold significant territory in the country's Sunni Arab west and middle.

Part of me wants to say we need to be bombing and droning ISIS, given all the atrocities it is supposed to have done.

and then I see, in my memory, Powel at the UN.
and I remember hearing the tearful testimony of Iraq or Kurd or whoever, babies thrown from incubators...which later was revealed as a staged hoax.

Today David Cameron was quoted as saying "we have to stop ISIS in Iraq before they come to the streets of Britain"

Now where did I hear that concept before.....?

Hmmm....Communists in Korea
and in Viet Nam
and Al-Kada, where ever it was convenient to picture them operating from

Yeah.... I WANNA say go ahead and bomb the bad guys.....
if only I had not been paying attention over the last few decades, and not reading so much history.
