He was literally just across the street from the media area. Not a good sign for media access tonight. #Ferguson

I do not know about the rest of you but I will never set foot in MO. I do not want to visit any place like this.

(7,234 posts)Notice that they position the unarmed grunts closer to the cameras while the armed ones are way in the back.
I think the Police and NG are working in concert to take down certain news photographers before moving in. They don't want people seeing whatever they have planned.
If it lived in Ferguson I'd prop a web cam in my front window (provided they don't cut off electricity.)
Missouri is a nasty place when it comes to race, the 1st amendment and media.

(3,276 posts)there was a specific area designated for the press, and Olson was not inside it.
So much for that freedom of the press thing we used to hear about.

Ironic, especially since the press never publicized Free Speech Zones for all the years protestors were segregated into them.

(7,627 posts)They have absolutely zero training. What the heck are they arresting a photoreporter for ? He is in a public street.
I really hope some of the big news organizations who have the means to go through litigation start filling lawsuits and drain the city coffers. Get rid of the current leadership and restart from scratch.

(15,882 posts)they put out a call for "men to fill the jails of Spokane". They did, and a few women came as well. Wobblies and others. Got the law changed in about a year. Police used steam and cold to try to sicken and kill them (killed a few), and allowed/ran a brothel out of the women's side. Others were imprisoned in Coeur D'alene, ID in open air stockades, and visiting wives were sometimes violated in front of them by the police while they were held behind the wire.
Police haven't changed.
But with all these press folks being arrested, it would be interesting if 10,000 or so reporters showed up to fill their jails. Wouldn't be room for any more black townsfolk, I suspect. The town budget would drop into the red and stay there for years, and this stupidity just might be over.
They wouldn't have to raise an arm. Regardless of your intentions that seems to be a bad thing to do in Ferguson.
