I have been following much of this on my iPhone but today I am home with my sick daughter. Now I see how this story is being framed for mass consumption.

(8,377 posts)Clearly it is wrong for a cop to be running down the street shooting off his gun in this situation. It seems there is little doubt this was a horrible incident that isn't justified on any level and I hope this cop ends up in prison. Moreover, one is struck by how many white faces there are spraying the black people with tear gas, bean bags, and rubber bullets. Clearly there is an institutional problem in this police force.
Having said all that, I find it frustrating that people like Brown Trevon Martin and most others in these situation, which clearly victimized, are generally not very sympathetic characters. Maybe some of that is a result of the media and government engaging in systematic character assassination. But the convenience store video doesn't lie. That makes it hard to get the action that this case clearly deserves.
