I have heard there is no DashCam footage...

Really??

But according to CNN this is the case.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/14/us/ferguson-dashcams/

I really doubt this is due to budget issues.

But let me suggest a nationwide push for all Police to wear body cams?.

More than enough evidence exists that when these are used PD complaints go way down-Duh.

Pushing a rope uphill I know-after 6 year olds get blown away we can't do a damn thing about gun control so I doubt this will happen anytime soon.

My personal opinion is the local PD didn't want dashcams to be installed as they could be used as evidence-against the tactics they prefer to use.

1. can't find the original thread where it was discussed the PD said installation costs 3K per car.....

and this DUer, eightteack, disputed and said at MOST it would be $500 per car. They have the cams, they just do not want to install them.

4. It's even cheaper to strap a camera to every uniform.

$200 for a basic GoPro and $40 for a chest harness. $60 if you want a waterproof case.

Every officer, every day, every minute. No exceptions and no excuses.

6. I agree that is the best solution- but they HAVE the dash cams, and chose to lie about why they

aren't using them. Which is pretty disturbing.

7. From what I understand of events, the dashcam wasn't useful here.

I've heard the whole "incident" happened through the driver's window, 90 degrees to where a dashcam would he pointed. Not much useful evidence there except maybe audio...and an incentive to the pigs to make sure they just make sure the car is parked in the right direction before they go hunting.

Body cams, now.

11. I have to believe that it costs more than that to operate all of that military equipment

I understand that the military equipment is given free by DOD and Homeland Security but that equipment has to cost megabucks to operate and maintain.

3. you doubt it?

Why? This is a poor community with a small police force of only 53 officers. Poor communities don't get the funding for the nice things like dash cams or enough officers or decent well furnished administrative offices with all the amenities or good libraries, schools, roads, parking, housing, etc. I guess you've never experienced life in a poor community. It's not just the residents that are poor it's the community as a whole, and they likely have to fight for any government penny they can get. Local government funding goes to the nice towns full of middle class educated white folks, and the poorer neighborhoods get the crumbs left over.

8. I doubt it costs 3 thousand to install two cams, or much at all to use the two body cams they do
Tue Aug 19, 2014, 02:51 PM

already have. How much does it take to install a body cam? Probably $0 and 10 minutes to read the instruction booklet.

9. you do realize there's a lot more involved than just installing the cams?
Tue Aug 19, 2014, 03:11 PM
Aug 2014

What good are they if the footage they take isn't saved, stored, organized, etc. Someone has to be paid to do all that, and none of that is cheap. Hell, if you doubt it than look into it and find out what it costs and what's involved. Then you'd know and don't have to harrumph about what you think the price of something you know nothing about is.

Further, who gets to decide what equipment gets purchased and from where the money comes from? I'll give you a hint... it's not the police chief. Welcome to the ugly world of local politics where the local government doesn't want to give any funding to poor communities.

Good lord it take 5 minutes to download and save a days worth of cam footage, by name and date- but don't let that stop you make excuses for them. Because (as you explained in another thread) your hair or living room is messy, and you don;t want or need police filmed in your community. Wow, that is some incredibly selfish shit right there.

5. Really? REALLY??

I installed a camera in my private vehicle. If I am in an accident I have a record of the incident. Time-Date stamp HD, audio

cost me under 200.00 and I installed it myself. It records continuous loop. If an incident occurs, I remove the SD card and transfer the video to disc...Costs too much.
