LANDOVER, Md. -- The "Hands up, don't shoot" protest has made its way to the NFL.

The Washington Redskins secondary emerged from the stadium tunnel during pregame introductions Monday night with hands raised and palms forward.

It was a show of solidarity with the people in Ferguson, Missouri, who are protesting the shooting of teenager Michael Brown.

Eleven players took part as the team was preparing to face the Cleveland Browns.

Safety Ryan Clark said Brown "could have been any one of us. That could have been any one of our brothers, our cousins. ... When you get an opportunity to make a statement and be more than a football player, it's good."

The owner ignored that and kept "Washington Redskins." At this point, they're called the Redskins because that's what the team owner, a classless douchebag, wants.

Personally I think that sounds awful. I live in MD, just outside of DC, and have been to several games because my ex-father in law used to get season tickets so I only had to spend money on the outrageous costs of everything in the stadium. I can't imagine calling them the Warriors, ugh. If there is a name change I hope it's something better but I'll still wear my Redskins jersey.

They don't have a say in the team name- It doesn't lessen the statement they made and hopefully more will make.

and now you can say I'm a solid fan of the team.

I'm sick of the way people of color are treated in this country.

My grand father fought in the civil war for the Union even though his dad, my great grand father was a slave owner plus my grand fathers brother fought for the Confederates but they never faced each other in battle. We have all the papers from my grand fathers inductions to his discharges. I use the plural because shortly after joining he got pneumonia and was discharged and was sent home to get well or die. After he was well enough he rejoined and spent the rest of the war as a proud Union Soldier.

28. Ryan Clark is the best........

I have watched him as a player over the years & he is an excellent safety. While with the Steelers he was the Player Representative for the Union & did a good job.

As a man & Father, I will give you the following anecdote:

My younger brother runs the Middle School Basketball program for the School District that Ryan Clark's kids attended in Pittsburgh. My brother had the kids on Christmas Eve morning in the gym for a scrimmage game. (this was a way to help the parents prepare for Christmas minus the interference of their kids for a few hours. Also on Christmas Eve the Steelers have the players in for a small celebration. Where was Ryan Clark? In the gym watching his kids play. His kids & family seem very important to him.

This would not have been just a "gesture" by Ryan Clark, as some in this thread have suggested. Ryan Clark would do this because showing support is something he truly believes in.
