How hard is it to fire a police officer?

Is it made harder by collective bargaining: hearings, lawyers, appeals, investigations, pushing paper, etc. Maybe we need to look into that.

I don't want the police to be empowered. I want them to be afraid for their jobs.

I'd rather have a cop making $8.50 an hour and no protections 951-Riverside Aug 2014 #7

you'll wind up with cheaper cops who will be fired sometimes, or not, depending on circumstances and dumb luck.

cheaper is good, right? that's one of those "american beliefs" that always make sense when someone with a functioning mind examines them......>.>.....<.<.....

Over some roid head tattooed up aggressive gang thug making $2000 a week with overtime that could kill me or my family if I don't put my hands up fast enough or just shoot me and say I was reaching for something.

Right now we're left with two choices 1. either start reforming law enforcement now 2. wait until the wrong person or persons is killed by one of these trigger happy thugs and people go nuts .

Edit: I'm not saying police officers shouldnt have union protections but the current system in place invites the wrong type of people to law enforcement while giving them damn near immunity from prosecution, I also do not support special protections of any kind of law enforcement. POBOR type laws should be repealed.

They should be so afraid of losing their jobs and being prosecuted that they do their work responsibly and in the interest of the public.

Unfortunately that is not the case.
