Missouri GOP Furious Over 'Disgusting' Voter Registration Booths In Ferguson
The head of the Missouri GOP is furious that residents of Ferguson have decided to fix their city's 12 percent voter turnout after a police officer shot and killed unarmed Michael Brown.
The Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party has labeled an effort by some Ferguson residents to fix its paltry twelve-percent voter participation rate "disgusting." And he seems to defensively insinuate that Blacks vote for Democrats and whites vote for Republicans.
"In an interview with Breitbart News, Missouri RNC executive director Matt Wills expressed outrage about the reports" of voter registration booths popping up in Ferguson, Breitbart reports.
Wills explained that the shooting death of Michael Brown was a tragedy for everyone.
This is not just a tragedy for the African American community this is a tragedy for the Missouri community as well as the community of what we call America, he said. Injecting race into this conversation and into this tragedy, not only is not helpful, but it doesnt help a continued conversation of justice and peace.
Wouldn't the director of a political party welcome more potential voters? If not, why not?
MSNBC's Steve Benen answers that question.

(45,251 posts)They're so fine with Republicans voting, they've started a bunch of Teabagger organizations around the country for purposes of registering Republicans and caging the votes of Democrats. Those were the organizations that the IRS hearings were about.

(82,849 posts)Republicans will gladly sacrifice 10 votes if it stops 100 votes they suspect might go to Democrats from being cast. It was why they had that running feud with ACORN. First, ACORN was registering too many of "those" voters. So the Republicans decided to launch their own voter registration drives. But Republican operatives didn't like the idea of submitting registrations for Democrats, so they shit-canned those cards. That led to state legislatures passing a law that if your organization was doing mass registrations, you had to submit all the cards you got.
Out-maneuvered, Republicans started ratfucking the process, filling out cards for Mickey Mouse or Haywood Jablowme, and charging that ACORN was trying to register non-existent voters. So ACORN started flagging the more obvious bogus registrations for the benefit of the local registrars. When the predictable whining about ACORN "screening" voter registrations fell on deaf ears, it was time for James O'Keefe to swing into action, and in spineless fashion, Democrats joined Republicans in destroying ACORN by cutting off its funding.
But voter registrations go on. And Republicans find it disgusting that citizens are encouraged to participate in the political process. Fuck 'em, says I.

(14,040 posts)I mean, for all the things they can be outraged about... shooting unarmed people, militarization of the police, a Faux news reporter getting cussed at by a protestor for saying stupid shit on air... no, they get outraged by voter registration. This guy is about as clueless as the police running the show in Ferguson.

(30,058 posts)which would listen to what the citizens really wanted. The lack of voting is exactly what the GOP is hoping for in order to their party to be in total control and push their platform. Let's take our country back, get this stupid issues out of our lives.
