Ruled a suicide: Handcuffed man in a pollice car shot himself in his chest ?

State Police say the gun used in the death of Victor White III is NOT a weapon carried by the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Officer.

“My son didn't shoot himself. I never believed it. I won't believe it,” said Victor White, Sr., the father of 22-year-old Victor White, III, who back in March, died from a gunshot wound.

It happened while handcuffed in the backseat of an Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office patrol car, during a drug arrest. According to State Police, who are handling the investigation, once at the jail, White refused to exit the vehicle.

As the arresting deputy requested assistance, they say white produced a handgun he had been hiding in his pants, and shot himself in the back.

But the autopsy, performed by the Iberia Parish Coroner's Office, reports the opposite, listing the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

The family is puzzled as to how he could have shot himself in the chest with his hands cuffed behind his back.

"My initial response was correct, that something was awry, and that something had gone wrong,” said White, Sr.

The manner of death was ruled a suicide. But, the family of White aren't convinced.

That was my first thought too when I read that the weapon wasn't a type carried by the Sheriff's department. That is was a drop gun the sheriffs had for just such occasions.

This reminds me of an old Civil Rights-era story.

They would recover bodies wrapped in chains at the bottom of a river. When informed, the Sheriff would comment, "Don't them fellers know how heavy them stolen chains are? Why would they wrap themselves up and try swimmin' a river to get away? Just stupid." And case closed.

arms that can contort to shoot themselves while handcuffed, can reach 35 feet to beat up a cop and can grab a gun while someone is pinning them down. Happens all the time.

They must think people are stupid if they believe this story will hold up to scrutiny. First off it is physically impossible to shoot yourself in the chest with hands behind your back.
Assuming he slipped out of his handcuffs it is still not believable he would have produced a gun. When police arrest you they pat you down and make sure you have nothing.
