I don't know if this is "politics, issues, and current events" but the women depicted do make me feel more positive about some of the current events we are now experiencing. I hope you will all enjoy this article - it is full of inspiring photos with captions. These women have changed history forever by being strong, brave, and human, regardless of societys expectations for them.

(29,148 posts)The marathoner who has her hands on her in that original photo is trying to pull Jock Semple (the suit) off of her. Take note of the guy on the far right in the original photo--the one who is looking back at the action:
That was Switzer's boyfriend at the time (Tom Miller), and he's about to head back and take Semple out:

The main reason I know the story behind the photos (including the runners protecting her) is because someone posted and explained them on DU some time ago. Yay DU for helping us learn about these things!

(19,459 posts)And reminded me that we don't always understand what we are seeing when it comes to photography. Important to me, as it reminds me that a photo can be as deceptive (unintentionally or not) as anything else we experience.
These types of interactions are what kept me interested in DU after I first stumbled in here.

That pic of the women in Toronto was not of the first time women wore shorts and they didn't cause a car crash. That was a staged photo.
