(37,364 posts)Workers deserve representation in the workplace. What the public doesn't deserve is the protection of bad employees by corrupt administrators and politicians. When police run amuk, the citizenry pays either way.

(33,491 posts)I assume this is from another discussion somewhere on GD.
What have they done? why rein them in? Which particular chapter? All of them throughout the cuntry?
The OP seems more like a reply than a thread starter.

(17,644 posts)They are the "Legal Teeth" reinstating officers who in their "Rush to Judgment" shoot and kill unarmed citizens.
So yes - between them and the Supreme Court you have a perfect storm declaring open season on African-American youths

(21,925 posts)if they cared about consistency. Instead, they are giving their money to a police union in St. Louis which handles the Darren Wilson legal defense fund.

Both FDR and Coolidge agreed.
The FOP protects bad coppers.

(67,369 posts)if a police person commits an illegal act while on duty, the union should be liable for any judgements, not the taxpayers

(32,342 posts)This comes up every time there is police violence, and I know that the cops who suck, suck hard.
However, this situation will not be made better with non-union cops, who make minimum wage, are part of the private sector (corporate mercs? do we need this? think Blackwater/Xe on our streets), and don't have the minimal professional standards that they do now.
Like I said, I deplore like fuck what is going on and they need to straighten their shit out. But deregulating them, which would essentially be what would happen if you weakened their union, would be even *more* disastrous.

(7,234 posts)I guarantee you if a Union bus driver shoved a gun in some passenger's face and said "I'm going to fucking kill you" and it was all captured on camera, not only would he be under arrest but he would be fired that same day, lose his pension and his union would not represent him in any way.
Police Unions on the other hand are a different animal. They support, defend and encourage horrendous behavior against citizens. These police fraternities calling themselves "Unions" are not your average Teamster/IFPTE unions and do not deserve the same recognition or protections.
The name of the game for these Police Frat Groups and their associates is to Lie, Deny, and Deflect. This is pure unadulterated mental illness, it is a sickness permeating law enforcement and these people have no business anywhere near a gun let alone have any authority over people.
Many Officers within the ranks are sick, sadistic and depraved animals who look for any excuse to hurt someone and get off on seeing people hurt. They ought to be treated like pedophiles and locked away from society.
Hopefully the protests will lead to reform that drives the aggressive cult-like brotherhood culture out of law enforcement because if it doesn't we are all in big trouble.
Real unions fight for fair wages, medical coverage and safer work environments.
...And THIS is what Police Unions Stand for:

(948 posts)Cops are the enemy of every worker or minority, they have fat benefits packages, and are rarely disciplined for evil they commit on a regular basis. Did you not see the video above? Did you not see Ferguson? Did you forget how the pigs treated OWS? Why the hell are you protecting them? They do NOT need a union- and they are pretty much the only proffession I would say that about.
