what you're supposed to do is donate some money instead!

At least they've got some suspects. I'll stick with rock and roll, thank you -- the worst things we do are mosh and worship Satan.

Detectives have video that shows a man shooting former rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight and two other people in a West Hollywood nightclub early Sunday...The shooter is seen running from the 1 Oak club, along with dozens of people who fled when they heard the gunshots, Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputy Crystal Hernandez said. The shooter has not been identified and the handgun used...was not found... All three victims...are expected to survive...

A grainy cell phone video posted on Instagram shows (event host singer Chris) Brown standing on the back of a couch and yelling in the aftermath of the shooting. Brown's bodyguard can be seen trying to get him down...Brown is still on probation for beating singer and then-girlfriend Rihanna on the eve of the 2009 Grammys...

Knight rose to fame and fortune after founding Death Row Records in 1991 and signing artists such as Snoop Doggy Dogg and Tupac Shakur. Knight was driving the car in which Shakur was a passenger when the rapper was shot to death in Las Vegas in 1996...(Knight) was shot in the leg at a party hosted by rapper Kanye West at a Miami hotel on the eve of the 2005 VMA show. If everyone was running from the club, I guess the cops grabbed the wrong suspect -- if that happened at all.

NY Daily News: Investigators are reviewing “clear” video of Sunday’s shooting at the 1Oak club in West Hollywood, and the evidence suggests that rap mogul Suge Knight, and not Chris Brown, may have been the intended target...(A) law enforcement source close to the investigation told the Daily News (said), “The shooting happened almost immediately after (Knight) arrived, so it looks like a crime of opportunity...”

While Knight, 49, has a long history of glamorizing gang violence, the motive for the attempted murder remains unknown...West Coast rapper The Game, who also has gang ties, was turned away from the club before the shooting, the source said...“I don’t think we need to talk to (The Game). The club wisely didn't let him in, and he left without incident...Suge also was turned away, but he eventually pushed his way in..."

...People with knowledge of Knight’s recent activities believe the shooting was connected to the upcoming NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, which is still in production, sources said. “One of the characters being portrayed is Suge, and he feels that if his image is going to be represented, he believes he should be compensated for that,” one source said. “He is bullying and threatening people because he believes anything to do with rap in Los Angeles means you have to pay him.”

A statement posted on his personal Facebook page asked fans to keep him in their prayers. “Suge is currently resting and has lost a lot of blood — he’s human,” the statement said. “He's done a lot of things for the community and the culture as a whole so we ask that you respect that...”

Was The Game turned away before Suge arrived -- that is, would Game or a "loyal associate" be angry that Suge got in but he didn't? No, that would be the club's fault, not Suge's, and the biopic angle is even weaker. If Suge was pissed about being portrayed but not paid, HE'D be the triggerman. Of course, it could simply be a matter of some "foot solider" seeing an opportunity to make a name for himself...

...that left him with six gunshot wounds. Los Angeles police were looking for several ‘people of interest’ whose names or street monikers came from tips or witness interviews....

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lt. John Corina said...investigators were "talking to and looking at" some individuals affiliated with the rival Bloods and Crips street gangs, and others with no gang ties...He said his department had received no credible evidence that the bold Sunday morning attack...was related to an alleged bounty on Knight's head stemming from the 1997 murder of New York rapper Notorious B.I.G., whose real name was Christopher Wallace...(link)

New York Post: One possible motive for the shooting of Suge Knight at Chris Brown’s album release party was to discourage him from releasing a tell-all book on his music industry reign.

Music insiders are buzzing that Knight is shopping a story on his career...Knight had a deal with Penguin’s Riverhead Books to write his autobiography in 2002, but it was never released. The music mogul has since fallen into legal and financial trouble, having filed for bankruptcy in 2006 after losing a $107 million lawsuit to a woman who claimed she helped found Death Row with Knight.

We’re told that Knight — who’s refused to talk to police about last weekend’s shooting — was also recently shopping a movie and had filmed a pilot for a reality show a few years ago, though it’s never aired. “Suge doing a tell-all book would be a huge best seller, and probably one of the few things he could do,” a source told us.

A free-standing winner-take-all bounty on Suge? I can buy that...
