Carter--well, what can you say that doesn't involve stringing together an embarrassment of superlatives? Done in by the Reagan-Bush cabal & the October Surprise as the sun set on the old American vision of decency and respect for the common person.

And ol' Fritz--his only sin was trying to tell the American people the truth. And then I think of him wading in to pick up the torch after Wellstone went down.

Jimmy Carter did serve as the sun set on what used to be America, and seems the last President who tried to do what was best for the country, meaning its citizens. Reagan, with the Bush crime family in tow, started the plutocratic crusade to crush the middle class. It's nearly too much to think about now.....

Caligula at least put some resources into the infrastructure of the Empire.

Hmmm... come to think of it, he WAS a baloney sandwich. Quite literally, a big fat baloney sandwich on two legs.

...but Mondale's a big part of why my internet handle's "Fritz". It's not my real name; I had to pick a name to use in German class. I saw that one and, remembering Mondale's run for the Presidency three years earlier (and even as a 13 year old in 1984 I was going "Why the f*** is everybody voting for that stupid old man?&quot decided to adopt that as my "German" name, and then later as my internet handle.

(67 isn't my birth year; it was my register operator number at K-mart a long time ago)

were more than correct when they told us we would be here if we didn't slow things down and quit being such profligate consumers.

For those who weren't around then creativity was leaking out of every pore in this country, and when people who had taken advantage of it turned their back on them and voted for Reagan they threw all that away.

Then he goes off to be a carpenter.

Ironic, the stories of carpenters who appear through the centuries. We crucify them and then wonder who is making the world such a bad place. At least I have the comfort of actually having see a real one.

Thank you for your work, both of you.

Instead of focusing on military spending Mondale went after the tiny NASA budget. Purely a political move.
