From hashish smuggling to sorcery. Isis is evil, but I guess it's better to be friends with the devil you know.

(26,549 posts)I'm not sure we can criticize beheadings. At least it doesn't take the victim 2 hours to die.

(4,868 posts)America is number 5 in executions. It's a shame.

(25,406 posts)than writhe in pain on a gurney for a couple of hours, then have them attempt to revive me (so that I could be executed again) and then suffer a heart attack and die anyway.
Sadly, the US is really not in much of a position to lecture other countries about this issue. I really wish we could abolish the medieval relic that is the death penalty.

(2,161 posts)If we are going to fight radical fundamentalist Islam, then fight it at its source: Bomb Saudi Arabia First.
ISIS is a Saudi creation; Saudi Arabia is ISIS's inspiration.
Saudi Arabia has financed jihad worldwide, funded the madrassas that teach young boys to be killers for Islam, unleashed terrorism upon the world.
Bomb Riyadh, the source of ISIS funding. The source of salafism (fundamentalist Islam) and the money spreading this cancer all over the world.
The Saudi culture is the same cruel, barbaric culture that ISIS imposes.
If the US must go back to war in the mideast, at least bomb the correct people this time. It's utterly pointless to bomb the creations of the Saudis, while leaving the Saudis in place with their oil billions and toxic ideology to create the next Sunni terrorist force.

(33,688 posts)The Saudis are inevitably the source of money and "inspiration" of all the Sunni lunatic movements. Wahhabism is pure poison.

(21,925 posts)The hardline Wahabis cannot tolerate any semblance of idolatry and so 95% of Mecca's 1,000 year-old buildings, shrines, and monuments have been leveled. ISIS has done the same thing with shrines in Iraq like the Prophet Sheth Shrine in Mosul..

(531 posts)Having been to SA and Texas I would say they are pretty much the same both places are run by religious extremists, are hot and both places love to kill its citizens in what they call justice they just use different methods that have the same result. Both places i never felt safe unless I was carrying a weapon 24/7 too.
I would not advise travel to either place.

(26,060 posts)I don't think that comparison holds up unless people are being executed for sorcery and blasphemy here (those are religious "crimes" . As far as I know, you have to convicted of murder to get the death penalty in the US.

(26,060 posts)But my point was we don't execute for religious reasons (obviously I mean we don't anymore - the Salem Witch trials come to mind).

Would it make you feel better if people were beheaded for non religious crimes?

(26,060 posts)It's juvenile and annoying. I'm against the death penalty PERIOD. Those that use beheadings are barely human no matter what the crime is. The person I was posting to was trying to compare the death penalties in the US to those in SA - I merely pointed out that you have to kill someone before you can get the death penalty here (I think there may be some exceptions made for drug kingpins but I'm not sure of that). In SA you can get it for having a bible. Get the difference?
