DU is a truly great news aggregator, with fantastic navigation and easy interface.

That is all.

Personally, I try not to even look at the names of the people I'm "talking" to. I don't know who so-and-so is who left. It's an anonymous forum.

To all our merry comrades who drift away: Good luck and have fun!

I was used to Daily Kos, where more emphasis is placed upon original postings or at least more analysis of linked posts. I was rather flummoxed especially that op titles were also directly from linked sources, and that they didn't necessarily reflect the view of the person making the post.

What I like about it is that I get intelligent, liberal commentary following the news.

Like with the recent Obama threads. If you don't follow the crowd and worship Obama, you are deemed a bad person.

It's authoritarianism with a great following which uses personal attacks to shut down any discussion which makes the authoritarians uncomfortable.

Yee shall know them by their posts.

Especially since you are the one getting personal.

I was speaking in general terms. If it personally offended you that is your personal problem. If you wish to deny that authoritarians exist on DU we can have that discussion.

Strangely for DU, Obama's supporters are in more of a defense position. You are stating a falsehood. It's the word "worship" that is insulting and making it personal. I don't worship Obama. I support him.

Unless would-be licensees contain the words 'freedom', 'patriot' or 'conservative'. They can just continue using Usenet!

The admins have created an impressive user-friendly discussion board that would do very well in a commercial setting. When we looked into forum software at work, I was trying to find software that emulated what Skinner, EarlG, and Elad had created. I could not find anything as well-constructed and managed as DU. I even forwarded the DU link to several people and said, this is what we need.

The admins could be rich. Instead, they're here dealing with us. LOL!

It is the best run site I have dealt with - fast, organized, and very thorough in its features. When posters are treated badly there is the alert/jury system and the ignore button.
If there is a breaking story, there are several links posted so one can get a good idea of what is going on.
It is great to see reactions to issues from like-minded people as in my community, I would have to fill up the gas tank to find such people.
