Oklahoma City police officer Sgt. Ryan Stark, center, leans over the casket of his canine partner, K-9 Kye, following funeral services for the dog in Oklahoma City, on Aug. 28, 2014.
The dog was stabbed during a burglary
K-9 Kye, a three year old Belgian German Shepard, died Aug. 25 after being stabbed by a burglary suspect the day prior. Sgt. Stark tried to separate the dog and the suspect before fatally shooting the suspect.

(30 posts)No sarcasm, it's pretty sad, although indicative that a police dog gets a nicer funeral than a lot of humans.
Now for cops all over the country to get the memo that shooting citizens' dogs isn't cool either!

(23,674 posts)Just goes to show what a sick society we live in. Half the problem asshole cops are the way they are is because we glorify them with out question and then tolerate them when they are hopped up on steroids killing innocent people!

(11,065 posts)Police dogs are officers considered just as worthy as their human counterparts and are given the same honors that any human officer would receive whether awards or funerals. The bond between a human officer and their canine partner is stronger than most between people and their dogs.
Yes, thankfully there are those willing to do the hard jobs putting their lives on the line to help others. Grotesque the treatment they all get here.

(9,821 posts)in this country, especially in rural and suburban areas. Officers' funerals, in some parts of the country, are WAY over the top.

(16,178 posts)When police shoot a dog they claim that it was just property and assert that no emotional trauma can be claimed in a suit. But if you kill a police dog, you get charged as if you killed a person.
Why do we allow this double standard?

(1,328 posts)the dog getting the wonderful sendoff that he deserved.
I do agree though that all dogs should be treated humanely by the police, our dogs are as important to us as the police dogs are to them. They are not just a dog as is often described by police when they kill one.
I know my dog would bark at the police if they showed up on our property, he wouldn't hurt anyone but I'm sure they'd see him as a threat.
