[font size="4"]Most wars, after all, present themselves as humanitarian endeavors to help people.
When people don't understand that the government doesn't have their interests in mind, they're more susceptible to go to war.

as little as possible has been done to punish Wall Street for their economic terrorism and make victims whole.
Therefore, a lot of people DO understand the government doesn't have their interests at heart.
Which means if this or the new Cold War start getting American troops killed or blowback here in the states, Washington might find themselves with a far less manageable public on their hands.

In the United States today, the Declaration of Independence hangs on schoolroom walls, but foreign policy follows Machiavelli.
Machiavelli was required reading for those at the top of both our military and corporate elite. I know. I worked for the world's largest corporation, in my day. They were not exceptional. They owned the Congress for but a short while before competitors began to offer better deals.
Rome was not made it a day, or centuries, yet it fell in short order, why? "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

studied Machiavelli. Zinn was correct. They didn't even hide it.

(7,888 posts)11. Thank you sabrina, "Michael Ledeen's hero"
They don't even try to hide it because they think the average joe/jane is ignorant of history.
Politicians and corporate wonks have underestimated US, imho.
