Rep. Cleaver sued for alleged car wash loan default

"
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Bank of America is suing U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver for allegedly defaulting on a loan for a car wash he owns.

The lawsuit against the Democratic congressman seeks $1.5 million in principal, interest and late fees.

And there are questions about whether taxpayers are on the hook for the loan default.

The car wash is in Grandview. It's owned by Cleaver and his wife Dianne.

The loan was used to buy the business in 2002.

"Keep in mind, this was done before I went to Congress. I was a private citizen," said Cleaver."
