Local news in L.A. aired video. Here's an AP report I found:

Meteorologist: Tornado near Stockton not unusual
The Associated Press
Published: Wednesday, Apr. 11, 2012 - 9:05

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The National Weather Service says the tornado that struck five miles outside of Stockton on Wednesday was not unusual for this time of year.

The twister on farmland near Interstate 5 left a path of damage about a mile long. The Record of Stockton reports (http://bit.ly/Ia6Oyh) that it shredded a wood-frame shop, tipped over a big-rig trailer and sent shards of aluminum siding across more than an acre of land.

There is nothing more frightening than be caught driving when one is nearby. Happened to me on I-94 just outside Jackson, Michigan. Wind buffeting the car. Hail beating down on my windshield and raining so hard I could not see. I thought I was living my last moments on Earth. I hope we don't see too much of this in the future.

Since records have been kept, though, no one has ever been killed by a tornado in CA. Stockton's tornado yesterday was rated EF-1 by NWS.

I lived in Sacramento in 04-05 and there were two or three twisters in the area--perhaps a third as a funnel cloud. I remember that time well. It struck me as bazzar that tornadoes would be in this part of the country. One was near W.Sac postal distribution station and one in Natomas. I think the funnel cloud was in Natomas too. Don't remember the damage result, but there was some in the form of missing roofing material. I believe prior to my first trip to China in 06 there was another report of tornado either near Sac. airport or Yuba City. Seems that someone told me there was funnel cloud reports while I was gone. Yeah. weird this is happening in Nor-CAl.

So yes, welcome to Tornado alley West(sorta).
