Ten weeks ago today, I was let go from my job as a roofpeter for the Post. (And, yes, I felt dirty the whole time, but it was a chaypeck.)
I still have my unemployment benefits, though: I still have my apartment on the Island. (Staten, not Long.) I guess I'm just posting this because I realize that many, many unemployed Americans---including some on this very site---are having a much worse time of it than I.
To anyone and everyone reading this, I wish you luck. I haven't given up. Don't you!

(417 posts)I've actually felt that way through this entire recession. I've managed to hold on to my job, keep a roof over my head and although I don't make a lot of money I make too much for food stamps so I guess I'm doing O.K.
Nothing like witnessing true tragedy to realize how lucky you are!!
