http://m.news-journalonline.com/article/20140926/NEWS/140929545/0/FRONTPAGE?p=1&tc=pgBut Allen, as noted in Eisens report, drove his 2007 Toyota around the emergency vehicles for about 200 feet off the paved highway. Deputies and emergency personnel yelled at Allen to stop his car, to no avail, the report states. Allen was ordered three times to park his car east of the emergency vehicles and out of the way of the helicopter, but refused, deputies said, instead stopping on S.R. 40.
Allen then rolled into the open space on S.R. 40 that had been cleared for the helicopters landing, the report states. Thats when he almost struck Sheriffs Sgt. Justin Sawicki with his Toyota, deputies said. As Allen passed Sawicki, the sergeant began yelling at him to stop. Allen was in the helicopters landing zone and the chopper was just above, 50 to 100 feet from the ground, the report states. Sawicki then told the pilot to abort the landing to avoid another accident.
Allen, of Port Orange, told deputies he had no idea the road was being blocked and then said, I always go around firetrucks and never have had a problem before, the report shows.
But deputies say Allen did have a tough time hearing several people yell at him as he drove around eight fire and emergency vehicles parked in the east lanes of S.R. 40 early Thursday just after midnight.
A Florida physician's assistant was jailed Thursday after refusing to move his car to allow a medical helicopter access to the scene of a deadly car crash, police say.
James Allen, 52, first drove around emergency vehicles in the Barberville accident that left 26-year-old Tessa George dead.
He then drove directly into the spot cleared for a helicopter and wouldn't move it even as police pleaded and the helicopter hovered 50-100 feet above, authorities say.
--------
Police say he then pulled into the spot reserved for the helicopter and refused to move, officials said.
Only when Allen was forced to move his car could the helicopter finally land, and even then police say Allen continued to refuse to produce his driver's license.
In the end, he claimed it was because he was confused about what all the fuss was over.
According to the police report, as he was arrested Allen yelled:
'I always go around firetrucks.'
In answer to his confusion, police charged Allen with failure to obey police-fire department or
ders and resisting an officer without violence.

(5,756 posts)He drove around EIGHT, Count them EIGHT emergency vehicles blocking the road. He almost ran down a person.
If he were a concerned medical professional who wanted to offer his assistance he could simply pull up the the line of emergency vehicles, get out of his car, and then find the officer in charge to offer assistance.
In light of the evidence I must push the Outrage Button and the Dumfuck Button.

Maybe he was just confused.
It happens.

(5,122 posts)Condemn this man!
Didn't he say "Screw You" too?
Oh yeah, he did not.
What's wrong with this forum?
muriel_volestrangler
(101,263 posts)I suspect he did it because he thought that rules like stopping at a road blocked by the emergency services didn't apply to him. I doubt he did it to be an asshole; he just is an asshole.
What does whether he said 'screw you' have to do with it?
Seriously, I'd like you to explain what you think is wrong with this forum.

(5,122 posts)Your quote. "I suspect he did it..."
You do not know. Plus, what did he do? Intentionally create a distraction? For what reason?
The poor guy just might have been confused but you have him convicted. For what?
I actually like this forum and respect so many here. But, I am surprised when this type of post happens.

(101,263 posts)This is an internet forum. We discuss things. You asked "So he did it to be an asshole?", and I answered you question with 'I suspect'. Did you really expect your question to only be answered with someone who had cast-iron proof of his motivation?
You put forward a suggestion. By your logic, that too is 'what is wrong with DU'. You don't know he was confused. You have, however, ignored the bit about driving 200 feet off the road. That is a vital piece of evidence for him not being 'confused', but an asshole. If you are confused by a road blocked by emergency vehicles, you stop. You don't drive off the road to go round.
What did he do? He stopped an emergency helicopter landing. I haven't seen anyone suggest he did this to "intentionally create a distraction", so I can't see why you bring that up now, and then ask someone else to provide a reason for your brand new suggestion.

(5,122 posts)You seem sure he is. You have so little information and you are so quick to condemn.
That is my point.
Simple.

Much as you're confusing 'outrage' and 'benign discussion' to add a wee bit of melodramatic peevishness to a point?

(23,946 posts)The comments of the witnesses are also evidence.
One can armchair jury all one likes, but it is just all evidence. Pick the evidence you believe from the media reports.
Word of advice...stringing together two big words is impressive, but more so if they make sense together.
I sometimes swear that many folks think themselves excellent criminal lawyers because of all their experience serving on media juries and cyber Kangaroo courts.

(64,404 posts)In my experience, a shocking percentage of them are driven by unthinking morons that have no earthly idea what they're doing during the time that passes between "buckling up to leave" and "arrival at destination" anymore.
Additionally, I have no idea what the poster above me is on about a car being godly, evil, etc. Maybe they get paid for each use of the apostrophe, I don't know.

(30,481 posts)I have noticed people in Florida with base trucks often look for any excuse to leave the pavement with them. Sides of roads are perfect for them because it isn't too "bumpy" for them and their shiny truck.

(10,597 posts)... could have taken a little too much out of the medicine cabinet at work. If he was a Nurse Practitioner, why didn't he park his car and see if he could help? Whatever, if he was a black man, we all know where he would be now... in the morgue. I hope they did a drug screen on him. That's where I think they would find the answer to his behavior.

(2,101 posts)Granted, there is no sense to that statement, but driving around the trucks doesn't make any sense either. Maybe he lives in the forest nearby and believes he has the same rights as the deer, bear, and other animals to freely transverse the trails?

(30,481 posts)I understand there could be some confusion on his part. That confusion should have left him stopped with everyone else. The confusion doesn't send you off the road on your own to forge your own path around an emergency situation.
