George Zimmerman expected to take the stand in Trayvon Martin murder case, legal observers say

http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/04/12/11166967-george-zimmerman-expected-to-take-the-stand-in-trayvon-martin-murder-case-legal-observers-say?lite

"But Zimmerman....will need to explain why he thought his life was in danger when he shot the unarmed black teenager, attorneys not involved with the case say."

“There is no way around it,” Derek Byrd, incoming president of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, told msnbc.com. “I personally believe he would have to testify. It’s not like a case where there were three other witnesses. Who else is going to say he was fearing for his safety when he shot Trayvon Martin?”

those phone messages are pretty damning. He has to say something to have hope of getting out of this.

See the phone call to Trayvon from his girlfriend. How much time elapsed when the phone shut off, and the shot occurred. How much time did Trayvon have to beat Zimmerman senseless as he claims. And if he shot Trayvon in the back, it's even worse for him.

I doubt that he could stand up to a cross-examination. Of course, a jury might let him go even if his testimony was weak. You never know.
