(31,997 posts)I wanted to pass along the latest information we received from a conference call with the National Weather Service. We may see some storms develop this evening from a line along McPherson to Concordia and southwest into Oklahoma where the primary threat is for tonight; however, we could see up to 2 hail south of US 54/400 (more likely around the State line) with the storms tonight. These storms will taper off through the night, but another round could be possible tomorrow morning. The severe threat will develop after 5 pm tomorrow evening along the I-135 corridor through the Flint Hills. Everything is indicating ideal conditions for supercell thunderstorms and long-tracking, violent tornados, with the possibility of up to baseball size hail. These conditions are anticipated long after dark as well. The NWS is also anticipating that the storms will be very fast moving, 50 mph, so be prepared to take shelter very quickly. As you are out and about tonight through tomorrow night be aware of your surroundings at all times and know where the best place would be to seek immediate shelter if necessary and stay in touch with the media for changing conditions and be sure to have your NOAA weather radio plugged in and turned on. Remember that you can go to www.weather.gov/wichita to get the most up-to-date information on the storm throughout the weekend. I hope everyone is prepared in case something pops in our area tomorrow.

(10,745 posts)Truth is, they didn't issue a High Risk for OKC until maybe a day ago. Before then it was just a Moderate Risk.
Although, right now, it looks like the worst of the weather Sunday might be over Texarkana and Little Rock and we might just get an early glancing blow.
However, I have this bad feeling the Weather Channel guys may be right(they've had the same forecast for a couple days now. Hasn't changed much.) and that the NWS may end up moving the forecast storm track west a few dozen miles or so to match the WC's(as well as possibly upgrading it to Moderate Risk). That'd probably put the worst of it on top of us as well as possibly Tulsa and Springfield as well, instead of Texarkana/Little Rock.
Perhaps we'll get lucky, perhaps not.......I'll keep you informed on the situation here in North Texas as it develops.

(23,278 posts)And The DMN is already warning about saturday's storms
http://www.dallasnews.com/incoming/20120413-forecasters-say-saturday-s-storms-could-be-life-threatening.ece
In an unusually early and strong warning, national weather forecasters cautioned Friday that conditions are ripe for violent tornadoes to rip through the nation's midsection from Texas to Minnesota this weekend.
As states across the middle of the country prepared for the worst, storms were already kicking off in Norman, Okla., where a twister whizzed by the nation's tornado forecasting headquarters but caused little damage.
It was only the second time in U.S. history that the Storm Prediction Center issued a high-risk warning more than 24 hours in advance, said Russ Schneider, director of the center, which is part of the National Weather Service. The first such warning was issued in April 2006 before nearly 100 tornadoes tore across a large swathe of the southeastern U.S.
The latest warning covers portions of Illinois, Iowa , Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas. The worst weather is expected to develop late Saturday afternoon between Oklahoma City and Salina, Kan., but other areas also could see severe storms with baseball-sized hail and winds of up to 70 mph, forecasters at the Storm Prediction Center said Friday.

(9,893 posts)Looks like a bad night for the plains. Everyone out there, please find someplace with a basement or storm celler. Otherwise, figure out how to barricade yourself in your safest area, which is usually the bathroom.

(31,997 posts)A life-threatening, large outbreak of tornadoes is forecast to unfold across the central and southern Plains this weekend.
According to AccuWeather.com Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams, "The risk is about as high as it gets."
Oklahoma City and Wichita lie in the heart of the tornado threat area that extends from near Wichita Falls, Texas, to near Omaha, Neb., late Saturday afternoon through Saturday night

(9,893 posts)The speakers' brand was Norman Labradories. The had a very clear top range, which I prefer, and were overall the best value. Beat the EPIs hands down. Showing my age for sure!
Isn't one of the big Oklahoma universities there?
Good Luck and Be Safe to everyone in the area this weekend!
