Banksy anti-immigration birds mural in Clacton-on-Sea destroyed as 'racist'

A new Banksy mural showing a group of pigeons holding anti-immigration banners has been destroyed following a complaint the work was "racist".

The mural in Clacton-on-Sea - where a by-election is due to take place following the local MP's defection to UKIP - appeared this week.

Tendring District Council said it received a complaint that the mural was "offensive" and "racist".

Nigel Brown, communications manager for the council, said: "The site was inspected by staff who agreed that it could be seen as offensive and it was removed this morning in line with our policy to remove this type of material within 48 hours.

UKIP is an anti-immigration party, expected to win their first seat in parliament in this by-election. They are, of course, the pigeons, while, as we all know, the swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land.

I suspect the complainer was a UKIP supporter who didn't want the criticism, so called it 'racist' as an excuse to get rid of it.

Even more so in nearby Frinton-On-Sea.

It's not racist at all but a fair assesment of the mindset of many people who live round there.
