But, there are plenty of racists who don't believe they are racists. They are usually called republicans.

They call themselves liberals and/or Progressives. Sadly, Republicans/conservatives don't have a lock on racism, unrealized or otherwise.

And I'm pretty damn old. What happened? I can't imagine being a person of color and seeing this shit day in and day out. There is no excuse for this and I hope the person is fired. Seriously.

"Maybe the cartoonist is trying to suggest the fence-runner is a racist?" i wondered to myself. Curious for context, I read further, to find that apparently the artist claims no racial intent at all in it. "huh, that's... odd," I mused, and continued reading.

Holbert said he was contacted by the syndicator of the cartoon Tuesday night, asking if he could change the flavor from watermelon to raspberry

“They said there’s a racial element to it, and I disagreed to be honest with you, but I did it anyway because that’s what they were asking for,” Holbert said, adding that he regretted not calling The Herald to let them know about the syndicate’s objection.

And then I just shook my head at this guy. I can't conclude that the artist is himself a racist, from this. Rather he just seems like someone who is utterly and completely tone-deaf on the subject. None of his other work that I can find carries a racial element.

Moment of derp, perhaps?

show President Obama brushing his teeth with watermelon flavored toothpaste (apparently there is such a thing). It showed the fence jumper asking the president if he has ever tried using watermelon flavored toothpaste. I don't know if there was a racist intent with this cartoon or not, but it does show stupidity on all of the people responsible for allowing this cartoon to see the light of day.
