I had read on the DisC. last night, some guy who had accused Obama of "grabbing guns."

Or at least an attempt by the President, it was hard to figure out what I was reading because it was so incoherent.

Anyway, I had absolutely no idea what he wrote about or when this supposed "grab" had allegedly happened. So, I decided to Google it.

Oooo, boy.

Needless to say, I came across one crazed website after another. I saw videos of old, decrepit white men holding up handguns in front of their cameras and apoplectically railing on in fits of utter incoherence and paranoia about "Gun-grabbing, Muslims, abortions and gays." I came across various blogs that are still up, talking about conducting last May's failed "Operation American Spring" demonstration in DC to take down the government. I saw the responses in the aftermath of that demonstration, full of recriminations, finger pointing and despair, over its utterly feeble failure to achieve it's stated purpose to remove President Obama forcibly from office.

They were expecting ten million "patriots," masses of unarmed militias to take Washington DC by storm. ("Ten million" people INSIDE of Washington DC? ) There were barely a hundred of them who showed up that day, frantically waving misspelled signs and Gadsen flags, in spite of looking, well… quite disappointed.

Turns out that the general excuse was that it rained pretty heavily on the first day of the event. So it seems that Oxygen inhalers and Rascal Scooters can't handle that sort of abuse. Probably would have voided the warranties as well.

But all-in-all, I saw mass right wing hysteria of biblical proportions, minus the dogs and cats sleeping together, of course. And I saw all of this in just FIVE MINUTES of looking for this supposed "gun grab," of which I don't think that any proof of such even exists.

SO my first and only question is, who the fuck were all of those crazy motherfuckers and why, for Gawd's sake, aren't they being chased down by men wearing white suits and carrying butterfly nets?

Answers, anybody? Don't mind me if I don't respond right away, I'm disinfecting my iMac with Lysol, so I'll get back to you in a while.

decal (be it "Calvin pissing" or whatever), there's invariably an NRA sticker, and perhaps other pro-gun related stuff decorating it as well. I'm guessing the "he's coming to take my guns away" mindset is the engine that drives so much of the fear and paranoia.

I had a "conversation" with a guy that I work with. He was hollering about all the gun control legislation Obama was trying to pass, 2nd amendment rights, government buying up all the ammo, etc. I finally asked him just what gun control he was talking about and he had no answer. He just knew it was true and that was good enough for him. All they have is the hysteria.

Simple solution; just ask the gun nut “what law has President Obama signed taking away your guns?” Local and state governments, ok, but I do not know of a single law Obama signed restricting your gun rights. Got to love facts.

I have never understood the "they are coming to get your guns" meme. There are some on the fringe that do advocate banning all guns but it certainly is not a mainstream Democrat view.

I somehow got on their emailing list and received the most amazing crap about various legislation they hoped to pass or stop from passing...not just about guns, by the way.
Between the NRA, the Koch brothers and Aipac I'd say the chances of our representatives in Congress doing what the majority wants is very, very slim.

Why do you think they have so many guns? They're afraid of their own shadows.

Now, there was a time when men and women of good will could comfort these losers in life with a calm "there, there now."

But these living, walking abortions have alienated everyone with even a modicum of reason, logic, and legitimate coping skills. So much so that no one wants to go near these freaks for risking getting shot to death in a terror-induced murder-volley.

We'll just have to hunker down and wait for Pithegunthropos americanus to become extinct.

And the way they shoot themselves while "cleaning" their guns, or when cornered by cops, or from heart attacks prompted by fear and high cholesterol, we won't have long to wait...

He was bitching about not being able to get some kind of ammo (I don't recall the caliber) because Obama was going to outlaw it.

We went around a few times about whether Obama was going to outlaw it or not. Eventually, I got him to admit that the only reason he couldn't get the ammo is because he and his nutty friends' paranoia had created a demand for it. And that the only reason he didn't have his ammo was because his nutty friends got to the store first and bought it all. Obama had nothing to do with the shortage.

So in a sense, there is a threat to gun owners.

I see many here who want strict gun control, but very few indeed who want to "ban guns" or "grab guns."

And then there are probably a whole lot more, who, like me, have given up hoping for meaningful change and are just waiting for the next batch of school kids to be gunned down. The country is full of idiots. They outnumber me.

There aren't many examples of federal, state, or local government actually confiscating guns.

What is more common are laws that prevent people (people not ineligible to otherwise own firearms) from buying or accessing firearms.

There are many examples of such "bans" and ban attempts. The post-Sandy Hook Assault Weapons ban is a good example of something that would have made it impossible obtain new certain rifles, shotguns and pistols in certain configurations.

Of course there are the hair on fire types who convince the gullible that actual confiscations are imminent.

But let's face it, there are gun restrictionists who would confiscate guns (or at least some guns) if they could get away with it.

He's been in office for nearly six years and I don't know one person who has had a gun grabbed. I'm a collector of antique firearms and I have yet to have one of them grabbed. I haven't even been paid a visit by one of the grabbers.

I hope I live long enough to see the day when these ignorant asswipes wake up and realize who it is that has been crapping all over them for the past 50 years, getting them to vote for candidates and policies designed to keep them fat drunk and stupid. They aren't capable of independent thought but it may finally sink in that after a half century of republican dominated legislatures, they're still as poor and illiterate as they ever were.
