Fairytales and Rumors of Fairytales.................

Believe it or not, through the wonder of the internet mankind is evolving. Never before can so much information be accessed so quickly. Over all this is a good thing, still we haven't sufficiently evolved to where we can deal with many of our shortcomings. One of note, The Rumor Mill.
Not that all rumors are bad. News about the invention of pumpkin spice condoms or detailed descriptions of office workers fighting over a sandwich can be down right entertaining.
On the other hand there is a type of rumor we might call slur, spin or propaganda. From distorting enrollment numbers to falsified accounts of military actions, using the internet to spread disinformation has become high art and a favorite tactic of the GOP.
At times the spin is so pervasive that it is picked up by conventional corporate media. Sometimes a Right Wing Bull Shit Fairytale can gain so much traction so quickly that even normally trustworthy news sources may be taken in and report it as fact.

Of late a number of groups are beginning to explore how to discern factual stories from, well, "made up stuff".

This brings to Emergent.

Emergent is a real-time rumor tracker. It's part of a research project with the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia University that focuses on how unverified information and rumor are reported in the media. It aims to develop and best practices for debunking misinformation.

Emergent does not appear to be primarily politically motivated. It will not tell you if Joe Biden has had a third breast implanted or if placing Elizabeth Warren in a microwave oven for 45 minutes will give her enough charge for a presidential run.
The trending aspects of the tool might help you determine web sites that are "bad actors". Originations that consistently promote information confirmed false.

All I can say is "check it out" see if you find it useful. Heck, send them feedback if you think it might help.

Fighting against Right Wing Bull Shit Fairytales (RWBSF) any way I can.
