"Former President George W. Bush is pointing to the resurgence of violence in Iraq as validating his belief that American troops should have stayed in that war-torn country instead of withdrawing in 2011. 'Theyre not ready to do it on their own, and thats the lesson weve learned recently,' Bush told Fox News on Thursday."http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/george-bush-isis-america-has-learned-lesson-about-iraq
This from the FUCKER who lied us into the war, and finally signed a deal to withdraw all the troops he sent to Iraq by 2011.
Know how I know that?
Because he held a press conference to announce it on December 14th, 2008, during which a guy THREW SHOES AT HIM.
*That* was the shoe-throw presser: the announcement of US troop withdrawal by 2011.
Again: "Former President George W. Bush is pointing to the resurgence of violence in Iraq as validating his belief that American troops should have stayed in that war-torn country instead of withdrawing in 2011. 'Theyre not ready to do it on their own, and thats the lesson weve learned recently,' Bush told Fox News on Thursday."
There are times when even the vilest curses are inadequate to the task. This is one such time. The levels of sheer wretchedness here are literally fathomless.
...so I will suffice with this:

Bush Sr PUBLICLY refers to Bill as his 5th son and has since 2001...they are extremely close regardless if the gullible masses consume all the phony theater or not. Of course Bill protected Daddy Bush from prosecution so they could install GW in 2000. Obama did the same for GW so Jeb can return or their hand selected backup, Hillary.

(50,543 posts)Do you understand just how much money Bush and Cheney's financial backers made because we destroyed that dictatorship?
The question one must always ask yourself before committing to war is simple yet profound:
How will we know when we've won?
In the American Revolution, we knew we won when the British agreed to lay down their arms and return to England.
In the Civil War, we knew we won when the Confederacy laid down their arms and rejoined the Union.
In World War I we knew we won when the Germans signed the Treaty of Versailles and promised to abide by its terms.
In World War II we knew we won when all the Axis powers surrendered.
We kinda won the Korean War when the North Koreans and South Koreans promised to stop fighting each other, and the Chinese pulled out of Korea.
We won Grenada when the Cubans left.
We won Panama when we cuffed-and-stuffed Manuel Noriega and broke up his goon squads.
But how did we know when we'd won Afghanistan or Iraq?
If we wanted a lasting peace in either country, what I would have done:
Step 1: Compile a list of every Member of Congress and every President over the last 20 years or so - the timeframe doesn't matter - including the colleges they attended. Rank the colleges by "number of elected officials attended."
Step 2: Go to the top 20 colleges on the list and get one political science professor from each to agree to join the Army as a "special linguist officer" with the rank of major.
Step 3: Assemble an all-star list of our finest mayors, police chiefs and sheriffs, fire chiefs, drill sergeants, water commissioners, land commissioners, building inspectors, food inspectors and all those other "bureaucrats" that make life as we live it in in the US possible. Commission everyone except the drill sergeants as captains. Promote the drill sergeants to Master Sergeant - drill sergeants work for a living, they wouldn't have wanted to be officers.
Step 4: Send them all to the Defense Language Institute - half to learn Arabic, one-quarter to learn Pashto and one-quarter to learn Dari. The Arabic speakers would go to Iraq, the others to Afghanistan.
and Step 5: Actually TEACH those folks how to have a real democratic government! Their first job would have been to teach the Afghan/Iraqi people what a real democratic election is. Then they'd have one. And then they would train the winners to run good governments.
Step 6 of course is to wean the Iraqis and Afghanis off US defense and transition the governments to self rule.
Bush for once spoke truth: The Iraqis aren't ready for self-rule...but the reason for this is all at the feet of Bush: He went in, hanged everyone in Iraq's functioning government, then told the Iraqis, "well, you figure it out."
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)untold numbers of them and drove over 4 MILLION Iraqis into refugee camps in Syria and Jordon where they still remain, now exposed, in Syria, to even more violence.
Why Democrats do not respond to this moron with the FACTS of what he has done, is beyond me.
But they are silent, like lambs, who seem to believe that telling the truth about this egregiously criminal 'war' might somehow cause them to lose an election or something.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=5615167
REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
While I agree with the overall opinion of Bush, the poster is insinuating that all gypsy people are dishonest. The comment about the rigged gypsy cab meter is over the top.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Oct 3, 2014, 03:15 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The ethnic insensitivity of "gypsy cab" is not IMO common knowledge - the phrase didn't register with me on my first read through, at least. Perhaps a comment in the thread for the benefit of all DU readers would be more valuable than an alert or even a hide.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: It's an old expression. Outdated, and probably not appropriate, but not over the top. The poster would probably retract it or apologize if confronted and given the chance, and that's what I would do rather than alert.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I believe "gypsy cab" refers to a unregistered cab.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

(14,177 posts)I stayed for the story though. I am pretty sure that in 2002 that the people who orchestrated the war didn't need to be told it would destabilize the region. I am pretty sure they already knew that and were counting on it. And of course they knew 2011 was too early to leave after setting the region on fire. The only thing I am not sure of is if they planned to lose in 2008, but it looks like they indeed planned on losing, was McCain in on it though probably considering who he picked for a running mate.

(32,723 posts)They had a plan to take over the entire Middle East starting with Iraq because Iraq was supposed to be EASY. They knew it had no actual defenses and they really believed the people would greet us as liberators. It all went South when they fired the entire Iraqi Army and decided to get rid of every member of the Baath Party which they called "Nazis" out of believing their own propaganda. They really believed the people of Iraq would erect a grand Square named after Dubya in their gratitude over being liberated.

Now I see the same kind of dreck being spewed by Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Republican politicians, and yes, ex-presidents.

(5,400 posts)IIRC, that's part of the rationale about why some kinds of military actions are considered criminal. We broke Iraq, and sent it down a spiral of failure.
Our military presence was both a cause of rebellion, and part of the answer to keeping the country together. Iraq's government made the wrong decisions about how to deal with the vulnerable Sunni minority. Short of treating Iraq like Viet Nam, we had to live with that.
Our drawing our troops out was indeed part of the series of events that led us to where we are today. But they didn't cause it. Had we stayed, we'd be up to our eyeballs in the slaughter on the ground.
I'm still waiting for the neo-con's to prod their kids to enlist. Why aren't they at Harvard and Yale, etc., promoting ROTC? The crap economy their policies left us with can only do so much to help enlistments. To garrison the Middle East we need to see the modern day versions of Cheney not hide behind "better things to do".
Bush needs to be called out on this. "Are you proposing a draft?", "Are you asking the children of your associates and friends to enlist?". If not, where does he see the boots on the ground coming from?
"Are you willing to raise taxes to pay for this, or should it be off budget like your war?"
There are many questions he should be faced with.
