COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The Cobb County Jail is no longer accepting inmates after an inmate developed a fever. The man told jail officials that he recently traveled to Africa.

screening passengers simply for fever, which is basically the first manifestation of Ebola. But anyone within the 2-21 day incubation period isn't going to have a fever.

My first thought at seeing this thread is to wonder if this man didn't just say that in the hopes of better treatment or early release. But more to the point, can the authorities determine if he really was in Africa? And how long ago did he leave?

I always looked forward to getting stamps, was always discouraged when I wouldn't get one.

Maybe customs should reconsider protocol, even at the risk of offending "open borders" advocates.

I thought someone here at DU knew. You would think the article would have at least mentioned which country.

Maybe they can't give out that information for privacy reasons? I would think, too, that if he was somewhere other than affected areas they wouldn't bother to go through the trouble of testing.

I don't know. I guess we'll have to wait for more info.
