Want to cure violence? It's simple: insert empathy using shelter dogs.
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) works with juvenile offenders and kids from at-risk communities to stop the cycle of violence, using humane education and shelter dogs.
The cycle of violence is a vicious pattern in which an adult passes on abusiveness to a child. This pattern results when a child either watches or receives abuse. Growing up, he or she follows the example of the adult and continues the violence by abusing people and/or animals.
For today's Daily Action, learn how spcaLA's Teaching Love and Compassion (TLC) program breaks the cycle of violence, by visiting our website and watching a brief news clip about the program. And then, please share with your friends and family on Facebook and Twitter, and ask them to share too!

(9,126 posts)Run by the probation officer where the kids who had been in juvie--most especially violent offenders and gang members--were assigned a shelter dog to take care of. This program was a HUGE success, breaking through barriers of shame and violence these kids had built their whole lives. It was a win win because the pets got love and care, and the kids got a chance to feel unconditional love and a sense of protection for the dogs. Many of them convinced their families to adopt the dogs and more than one got an after school job so they could pay for food and necessities. I cannot recommend it more highly. Thanks for sharing.
