http://www.alternet.org/civil-liberties/look-inside-fake-abortion-clinics-are-greatly-outnumbering-real-onesWhen Rachel called a crisis pregnancy center located in Texas, she told the receptionist she was facing an unwanted pregnancy and wanted to explore her options. The woman on the phone responded by saying Rachel should come in for a free sonogram to see her baby.
Rachel went to the center and a volunteer asked her if she was planning to have an abortion. Rachel said she was still thinking through her decision. The volunteer then stepped out of the room and came back with another woman who introduced herself as a missionary. This woman told Rachel that the Bible says abortion is wrong. She pulled out a brochure titled A Womans Right to Know and proceeded to read abortion death rates.
Rachel was taken into another room for the sonogram. The volunteer claimed she was pretty sure she could see Rachels little peanut. The women asked Rachel how she was feeling about her pregnancy. Rachel said she still wasnt sure. The women asked if they could pray for her. They laid their hands on her and prayed for 10 minutes. Afterward, the missionary said Rachel should give herself to Jesus and let him take over instead of worrying about her pregnancy. She sent Rachel away with a Bible. Rachel was never given a pregnancy test.
An Undercover Investigation
Fortunately, Rachel wasnt pregnant. She always knew she wasnt. She was an undercover volunteer investigator for NARAL Pro-Choice Texas, a reproductive rights organization working to expose the danger of crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs).

(31,477 posts)The documentary illustrates the extent to which these CPCs will go in order to deceive women. In the film, anti-abortion activist Abby Johnson was even recorded at a CPC training session explaining ways to manipulate women into believing that CPCs are abortion clinics. She said:
"Women that are seeking abortions, women that are pregnant, that are vulnerable, they are going into Google and they are typing pregnancy symptoms. Theres a way in Google where you can basically set that search to your website.
We want to look professional, we want to look business-like. And, yeah, we do kind of want to look medical. The best client you ever get is one that thinks theyre walking into an abortion clinic."

(2,086 posts)I cannot express my anger at these charlatans misleading women, desperate and in need, who go there thinking they're going to see a doctor.
As far as I'm concerned this is medical fraud and the perpetrators should be jailed.

(146,116 posts)Here's the reality: It's far more likely that religion will be compulsory than that it will be outlawed. Look at the USAF, which tried to sneak in an oath that required "so help me God" at the end. The religious far outnumber the non-religious in this country. Be careful what you wish for is my advice.
Religion will not be outlawed in the US. The real need is to work to protect the rights of the non-religious. As an atheist, I support everyone's right to believe or not to believe as they choose. That's the only way to protect my rights. Calling for outlawing of religion is not going to work to the benefit of non-believers. Please don't do that.

(3,884 posts)Your solution is just silly. You can't legislate away free thinking.
Your anger here is wonderfully ironic. If only we all thought as you do, then we wouldn't have a problem.

(115,070 posts)in the United States the Constitution specifically prohibits any government interference with religion, along with the fact that some 80% of all Americans profess some kind of religious belief? Face it, religion isn't going away; it's been a part of human culture and history since forever. What needs to happen is for religious people to understand that we have a secular government (and for very good reason), and that nobody has the right to impose their religious beliefs on anyone else using the power of the state. If that were to happen we'd all be fine.

(14,524 posts)Did I say I think it will happen? WTF? Religions are the main cause of MUCH of the crap happening all over the world, not just now, but in all of history. Delusional people killing for imaginary "gods."
The problem is, it's all based on nonsense. MAGIC ISN'T REAL.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,070 posts)Your solution, however, is to make all religion illegal. That will not happen. Rather than tilt at an enormous and impervious windmill, therefore, why not get involved in efforts to keep religion out of government? That's realistic. Espousing the abolition of all religion is not.

(14,524 posts)... you sure kicked the crap out of that strawman. Impressive.
I also want all nuclear weapons gone and all guns, but realize it isn't going to happen. Want to give me a ration of shit about those too while you're at it?
Excuse me for having ideals.
Just how the fuck do you propose I personally can "keep religion out of government?" We've got an asshole sitting on the SCOTUS who openly says it's okay to favor religion, and I'm supposed to change that?
I can't even get the government to help me have decent affordable health care or keep the police from acting like above the law, roving armed gangs. That's just scratching the surface.
