If you've been waiting to start working on getting Democrats out to the polls, you've waited almost too long. It's time to get out there and get out the vote right now. Not later. There is no later. Please contact your candidates or your local Democratic Party organization and ask how you can help. Do it now. If you wait any longer, it will be too late.

(34,589 posts)your elected representatives to ask them to do their part in fighting, tooth and nail, for the policies that will end apathy and GOTV?

(146,116 posts)Sometimes via email, sometimes via letters, and sometimes face to face. My Sentators are Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, and my house member is Betty McCollum. My state district representatives, also, are people I'm in contact with regularly. So, yes, I do that. I also work on GOTV efforts to make sure the progressives who represent me get elected whenever they run. Amy Klobuchar is not the most progressive of Democrats, but she's not running this year. She's very popular in Minnesota, though, so she doesn't need much help when she does run.
None of my elected representatives agree with me on every issue. I have never expected that. I expect that they will vote for progressive measures and work to get them passed, though. They do that.

(34,589 posts)I don't have the same access to reps as you do, but my elected representatives typically do the right thing. Warren is... well Warren, Markey's also been great, Kennedy... I am a little worried about him, I should contact his office sometimes. I used to contact Kerry's office, but the positions they'd rattle off to me were often different from how he ended up voting, but at least I tried. Barney Frank would sometimes answer my emails himself instead of his staff sending a form email, his emails were unmistakably his - you could feel the spittle coming through the monitor.

(5,946 posts)hard to get enthusiastic about him. Apparently he goes out on Sundays to speak to seniors, where as the republican seems to be everywhere in my town and in his other areas. IF someone does not want to get elected it is hard to want to expend any energy on them.
All the other spots are pretty much pre-ordained with leads of 20 points or so, I seem to find it is more important to work the primaries since mostly the area is democratic, with spots of republicans and almost no opposition. I am concentrating on contributing to other state elections which seem more possible and people are working hard for the positions.

(146,116 posts)chances for election. Is he certain to lose? I don't do GOTV work based on any individual candidate, anyhow. I do it for the entire list of candidates who have been endorsed by the Democratic Party.
I do it for myself. I do it because Republicans will always make decisions that hurt people. I'm also very active in our state's caucus and convention process and in primary elections. Much can be done there.

(5,946 posts)against a several term incumbent with high positives, veery moderate compared to most republicans, famous family, works like a dog for the vote, Knocked on my door while walking down my street, called me several times, has weekly town hall meetings, has them less frequently during the term, maybe monthly. The democrat is going to lose big.
