(born Paul Revere Dick) He was 76. In 1970 when I was 17, I would never have admitted to liking them; they just weren't considered cool with the folks I hung out with, but yeah, I kinda did.

(22,271 posts)I used to like Paul Revere and the Raiders. Iirc, wasn't Paul Revere the keyboardist and Mark Lyndsey was the lead singer? Either way, they were a pop band that I enjoyed in the mid- to late-60's as a teeny bopper. However, I was so wrapped up in the Beatles everything else came in a distant second.
Btw, I'd never seen Mark Lyndsey without a ponytail before.

(9,225 posts)Never caught them on TV but I remember them well (especially that dreamy Mark Lindsay) from 16 and Tiger Beat. Rest in peace, Paul.

It helped to smooth out the rough spots of my nerdy adolescent longing to fit in and find someone to love.
A bit different from the usual hard PR & the Raiders' music . . .

(53,339 posts)I saw them perform at Lincoln Memorial for Veterans Day 12 or 13 years ago and it was a fun show. Paul used to do the Run to the Wall motorcycle ride to D.C. and the band did two 'Ride to the Wall' albums with their hits plus good covers of CCR, The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Beach Boys, and others. The band was still touring and had a schedule for next year plus the remainder of this year.
R.I.P., Paul.

(17,656 posts)He was born a showman, that's for sure.
And he was almost upbeat and positive all of the time.
Even my dad liked his group a little when they played on tv back in the 60's.

(21,046 posts)Once in the sixties when they were high on the charts. Got seats on the fourth row with my big sister who could drive. I did not know that they had a song called "Little Girl on the Fourth Row" then.
Saw them again at an oldies concert in 2000. Don't know who the singer was, but it was not Mark Lindsay. Paul was crazy and fun. He said little kids would tell him, "Captain Crunch has a band! Wow!" I thought he said at that concert he was seventy years old then. Hmmm......
And of course I watched them on the afternoon show "Where the Action Is".
R.I.P. Paul.

(1,587 posts)Never saw them in concert, and don't remember their show (though I probably watched it if it didn't interfere with my daddy's shows), but loved their music.
Dang, all the actors and musicians I grew up watching are passing so fast.

(18,837 posts)...after James Brown, Paul was the "hardest working man in show business." The only way a musician of Paul's character is going to sideline himself is when he knows the end is near. I follow the band on Facebook and when I read his recent post about taking a time out for health reasons, I assumed this news would soon follow.
I grew up with their stuff, and own every record they ever released.
My October 11th radio show is already in the can but on the 18th I will be playing a "six pack" of their songs in tribute.
R.I.P., Paul...thanks for the memories.
