Thank you all who are sharing information about this potentially serious but not panic inducing (in my country) disease. I wish the best for all involved, more help and equipment is needed.

anyway and I'm not gonna deck myself out with plastic and duct tape.

You know if bush were still in office there would be a national shortage of that stuff. Shit I'd buy it myself.

Or at least, when I stated that my doctor had never advised getting the flu shot even after I'd solicited his opinion, I was told he's a quack. LOL

a nurse in a metro hospital in an area of 30,000 west African immigrants. I just want to be ready for the day someone who picked up their uncle at the airport a week ago and is now showing symptoms, shows up and is suddenly puking on my shoes. Since no one I work with has any idea what to do, and the guys in elegant suits and sitting in air conditioned offices on TV are telling me how ready we are, I am confused. So I will be wading in blood, feces and urine in the cheap ass paper isolation gown, gloves taped to my sleeves, the wrong type mask, because the health department is still saying to "just use basic isolation" while Mr. CEO is giving interviews about "how ready we are."
So, no, none of the answers apply.

help some of your coworkers have at least an idea of what to do. Even my small town hospital sounds better prepared.

how often nurses forget to put up signs on isolation rooms and people just walk right in to those rooms.

It sounds like an awful disease but, thankfully, not as easy to spread as some things. I will feel better once it gets under control in West Africa.

and as someone with a compromised immune system I have read and thought about it ALOT. I was also more worried about getting my flu shot and I wash my hands a lot. I'm not likely to be exchanging bodily fluids with someone in Liberia so I've got other health concerns that are more pressing.
