CLEVELAND, Ohio - Christmas. Easter. The Fourth of July.
Sure, those are all fine holidays. But they're no National Pierogi Day, which is today, Oct. 8. Yes, today! Wait, you didn't shop ahead?
No worries. Read on for five great Cleveland restaurants and bakeries to get your Polish (or Ukrainian) on and pick up some of those little filled doughy pillows of delight.
Share your favorite pierogi places in the comments section.

(698 posts)My mother-in-law (Ukrainian, barely spoke a word of English) made the best pierohi I've ever tasted. Haven't found any since that approached hers....

(2,273 posts)She would make the pressed ends rolled up like pizza crust so they had some thickness, then she would boil them and fry them. The texture of the dough was like a bagel super chewy and just full of yummy goodness.

(16,296 posts)with her peirogi and I don't regret it for one minute - bless her. Her's were paper thin filled with potatoes and a sour cream mixture or fried sauerkraut or the most heavenly - prune type jelly (which I can't find down here in Florida). Then covering the plate with slightly browned butter- several pounds worth - maybe a bit of caramelized sweet onions and a dollop of sour cream on the side. Damn, that brings back memories.

(205,202 posts)My mother never learned, more's the pity, and I would give anything to know. My Babci's were filled with kapusta (sauerkraut), first boiled and then fried in butter with bits of onion and salt pork. BTW, the prune jam/butter you're looking for is called Lekvar. We used to have that on these very thin crepes that my grandmother would make. I remember the name, but I can't spell it...

(2,282 posts)"Established in 2009 this restaurant was formed from two personalities , Patti who has the love and passion of cooking Polish food and her husband Ron who is a Motorcycle enthusiast. With a warm welcoming staff we have created a comfortable atmosphere with lingering scents and memories of Bachi's kitchen and a place where everyone knows your name. Our business is run on good food, good prices, and good service.
We offer take out, inside dining, full bar, lottery, and lots of polka music. Thank you for taking the time tovisit our website and we look foward to seeing you in person soon!"
Still hoping to try this place one day. We make our own pierogis and raviolis a few times a year.
