If he isn't one of the family or 50ish being monitored, I doubt he has Ebola.

(19,558 posts)I'm assuming that's CST. We'll know more then. For now it's only a possible case. They've had hundreds of those tested and come back false recently.
It could just be the tummy flu. Hopefully.

(18,115 posts)He "claims" he did, but it is not yet clear whether he is one of those actually being monitored.
herding cats
(19,558 posts)Who knows what he actually said, to be honest. The media tend to get a bit crazy in these cases. If he just came back from West Africa it could well be malaria even. That is if he just traveled back from there, we don't know if that's even correct at this point.

If he turns out to be positive, that's really bad, because we're talking about a whole new set of contacts to trace.

(19,558 posts)Thanks for the update here, though. It's appreciated. I'm not lighting my hair on fire until the test results come back positive. Medical facilities are taking the risk quite seriously now and there are a lot of possible cases reported. All but the one has come back negative.

City officials confirmed a significant medical response at the clinic on Main Street.
~Snip~
The city has scheduled a news conference for 3:30 p.m. to release more information about the incident.

Possibly the person came from w Africa, but we'll see.

Jamastiene
(38,187 posts)you have a good point.
Ebola just seems scarier. Something about bleeding from the eyeballs and hemorrhaging for days on end just seems scarier, even if flu will most likely kill more people. If I had to die from something and had to choose between the two, I would request a firing squad instead. Neither looks like a good way to go.

The media really doesn't help with the hysteria one bit. It's quite possible this is going to be another false alarm call - there have been hundreds since Mr Duncan was diagnosed, and many before that even- where they're being overly cautious. Cautious is good, but the misinformation being spread by media outlets is not good. smh

The Frisco patient has been identified as a Dallas County deputy Michael Monnig, who was not one of the 48 people being monitored by federal, state and local health officials because he never had direct contact with the patient. Monnig did enter the apartment where Duncan stayed after Duncan had been admitted to the hospital.

One doesn't have to exhibit all the symptoms right away to have Ebola.
TexasMommaWithAHat
(3,212 posts)The law enforcement official entered the apartment 3 to 4 days after Mr. Duncan had already left.
If he has ebola, the ramifications would be frightening:
a) ebola fomites have a much longer "shelf life" than we are being told
or
b)other family members may have ebola from whom he might have caught it, and the public is not being told
or
c) ???
I'm betting that this guy does NOT have ebola, and that this is typical media driven hysteria - not to mention local "officials" who want some tv face time.
LisaL
(44,967 posts)What if he did get Ebola.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit they don't know how exactly it gets transmitted. Would it surprise you?
By the way, claim that only person who has symptoms can transmit the disease would appear to be false.
Latest research shows some people are carriers but don't have symptoms.
TexasMommaWithAHat
(3,212 posts)because I will then believe that we are being fed lies about its transmission and/or victims or that the virus has mutated and is now easier to transmit.
