Protesters march in St Louis after cop shoots pedestrian deadThe dead man, reportedly a young black man, allegedly fired at the officer, though some reports claim the suspect had only a sandwich in his hands. The officer was heading to his second job as a private security guard and was reportedly wearing a uniform.
Concerns are high that this latest police killing will lead to unrest in St. Louis.

However, as a crowd formed at the scene, some individuals told reporters that the suspect did not have a gun. In fact, multiple people said he was only armed with a sandwich. They also told KTVI that he was shot 16 times.
He was unarmed, she told the Post-Dispatch. He had a sandwich in his hand, and they thought it was a gun. Its like Michael Brown all over again.

(83,658 posts)This pains my soul. Another death by cop. Who the hell are we? A police officer shot a young man 16 times. Dear Gawd. We have lost our souls here. I no longer recognize us. No not all, we still have our good. Yet there is so much hate out there. I am crying and at this point I have no clue when I will stop.

(81,127 posts)Amazed that I could find myself saying what that pathetic woman standing in the back of a packed room of wall-to-wall teabaggers at some town hall meeting back around 2010. She tearfully bleated - "I Want MY A-MAIR-i-ca BAAAACK!!!!"
Well, guess what? I want MY America back, too. MY America from the 60s and 70s when women's rights were on the RISE. When we were well on our way to seeing the Equal Rights Amendment passed (before it stalled and too many of us gave up and went back to sleep, figuring we oughta quit while we're ahead or some such idiocy), and there were multitudes rising up in the streets to stop the war - and actually starting to be listened to in some cases, when civil liberties were a much more widespread concern, and good causes were on the front burner. Granted that was also a horrible time for many, thinking about the casualties in Dallas on a morning in November, at the Ambassador Hotel here in L.A. on a night in June, a Memphis apartment house balcony on a sad April day, and the students massacred at Kent State. Those weren't days of across-the-board gentility and idyll pleasure, of course. Anything with Richard Nixon on the scene in any way couldn't have been exactly what you'd call balmy.
There's so much hate out there. My brain spins and hurts. My heart aches. My eyes glance furtively from side to side wondering who out there standing in line next to me at Starbucks or the grocery store feels compelled to be packing heat. I don't know what to do about it.
And on the other hand, I do know there are things that CAN be done. But they're miniscule. Baby steps. And they take time. They have a cumulative effect if they're kept up, but that effect takes time to build. And I don't know if we even HAVE enough time, anymore.

We have no choice but to continue forward and hope and vote for progress. For those that believe sitting out the vote until their 'true progressive candidate' stands before them, they are part of the problem.

More dead black people isn't going to help the situation!

The ruling class and its goon squads don't have enough officers and bullets to suppress the righteous fury of the masses once it is aroused. You'd think the ruling class and their goons would have picked up a thing or two since 1789 and 1917, but you'd be wrong.

It's not. There are LOTS of real Wonder Bread types in the crowd. Some look middle aged. I saw one guy that looked like my old shop teacher.

(4,631 posts)Someone is not telling the truth. Do sandwiches fire three times and then jam or was it a jam sandwich?
Matrosov
(1,098 posts)Witnesses claim he was carrying a sandwich, yet the police is now insisting he was firing at the officer and only stopped because his weapon jammed. We know that police are definitely not above fabricating evidence, including planting weapons at a crime scene. It looks like yet another cover up is well underway.

(50,167 posts)The Mayor is on with Chris Hayes and stated it won't only be the police investigating themselves, the prosecutor AND the DOJ will be working together on an investigation as well. This is good news, imo.

(50,167 posts)There is NO trust in the police among the black communities, and rightly so, the Mayor recognizes that and it appears there will be a thorough investigation instead of the all too often whitewashing of the tragedy.
