President 'unequivocally committed to net neutrality' Obama

(Note: I'm posting this thread at the suggestion of another poster, in response to a reply I made in a different thread.)

Today we learned that the NCTA is behind a group of Lobbyists Pretending To Be Cool Digital Hipsters To Convince Youth That Net Neutrality Is Bad. The National Cable and Telecommunications Association used to be called the National Cable and Television Association (source). They're a lobbying group for the cable industry.

Well, guess who was formerly the President of the NCTA?

Why it was none other than Tom Wheeler (source), the guy President 'unequivocally committed to net neutrality' Obama named to head the FCC.

So if the Prez is so unequivocally committed to net neutrality, why name the former head of a lobbying group working to end net neutrality as head of the FCC?

I'm sure tired of him talking the talk but failing to then walk the walk.

Also, you're a troll. I think. Or, if you aren't, you certainly will be soon. Are Obama critics trolls yet?

Obama has run this play repeatedly-- take a popular public stance, and build all the machinery to actually accomplish the opposite backstage.

“Now the FCC is an independent agency,” Obama said. “They came out with some preliminary rules that I think the netroots and a lot of folks in favor of net neutrality were concerned with. My appointee, Tom Wheeler, knows my position. I can’t—now that he’s there, I can’t just call him up and tell him exactly what to do. But what I’ve been clear about, what the White House has been clear about, is that we expect that whatever final rules to emerge, to make sure that we’re not creating two or three or four tiers of Internet. That ends up being a big priority of mine.”

Or does the new Prez appoint someone new, once elected?
