The political fight over gay marriage: A day after the U.S. Supreme Court left alone laws that allow same-sex marriage in other states, David Pepper renewed his criticism of Republican Attorney General Mike DeWine for defending Ohio's ban.
Voters 10 years ago amended the Ohio Constitution to outlaw gay marriage. But a case before a federal appeals court would force Ohio to recognize such marriages performed in other states. Pepper, the Democrat aiming to unseat DeWine this fall, believes the appeal should be dropped, reports Tom Troy of the Toledo Blade.
Said DeWine: "I don't have, as attorney general, the luxury of deciding which parts of Ohio's constitution to defend. If the voters of Ohio 10 years ago had voted to allow gay marriage and that was in the Ohio Constitution I would defend that against attack."....
