Denver Post thinks a Republican Senate will be reasonable because the Wall St. Journal says so

The Post has endorsed Gardner over Udall. Here is the key to their thinking:

"If Gardner wins, of course, it could mean the Senate has flipped to Republicans. However, that doesn't mean it will simply butt heads with President Obama as the Republican House has done," it wrote. " As The Wall Street Journal's Gerald Seib recently pointed out, 'A look back shows that eras of evenly divided power -- Congress fully controlled by one party, the presidency by the other -- have turned out to be among the most productive" because both sides temper their policies."

Wishful thinking with a side order of false equivalency/both sides do it. An intellectually bankrupt editorial board with the attention span of a gnat.

Or maybe they're just corrupt.

The editorial board isn't corrupt ... they are naive and playing a little 'balancing' game.

In recent years the Post has endorsed way more Democrats than Republicans and their net endorsements will still probably favor Democratic candidates this year, too.

So, the Gardner endorsement is likely their token Repuglican one; their attempt at showing they are 'balanced'.

The Post editorial board is just naive it they think this latest brand of Tea Party-Repuglican will "temper their policies". These Tea Party-Repuglicans are reactionaries, they aren't even 'conservative' in the traditional meaning of the word. So a Tea Party-Repuglican U.S. Senate will mean even more gridlock, negativity and obstructionism (although watch, if it happens, how the Repuglican majority does away with the filibuster -- meaning Obama would become 'Pres. Veto').

On the other hand, Mark Udall has been a mediocre U.S. Senator -- he is so typical of the risk averse and "shucks, let's all get along" type of Democratic elected official that have caused us to lose contests like this. There isn't much enthusiasm to reelect Udall -- Democrats and progressives deserve better than Udall. Nevertheless, we hope he manage to win.

I get so sick of the weed reference when stupid people do stupid things.

This is a paper who endorsed Bush twice.

DP has morphed from newspaper to kindling. The bizarre endorsement has lit a bit of a fire under the opposition campaign. In truth, the endorsement itself wasn't surprising, given that DP has been tilting rightward for some time. But the utter silliness of the reasoning is striking, and more than a little embarrassing for the only major front range daily remaining following the Rocky's demise in '09.

Some of the Rocky's reporters migrated to DP in order to remain employed in the region. Here's hoping they make a new migration, maybe to the Colorado Independent.

Insane regressive domestic agenda doesn't mean they have stopped thinking about it. If the TeaPublicans win the Senate I predict they will try to out-crazy their colleagues in the House. What they want is an end to the middle class and a total repeal of women's rights.
