Large wedge tornado strikes parts of Wichita

WICHITA, KS (KCTV) - Damage has been reported in parts of Wichita after a tornado struck late Saturday night.

The Boeing facility is among the areas in which damage has been reported. Most of Wichita is without power as many residents huddle in their basements.

An emergency has been declared.

Initial reports indicted the airport had been damaged but that turned out to be unfounded.

I'm just west of the airport and it went by to the east.

Some reports of open hangars and other damage at the airport.

I think the same thing about The rest of the state and Oklahoma.

Is it me and I just missed prior years, or are we looking at a long-term, significant increase in risk of these massive outbreaks? I was stunned last year when there were reports of nearly 150 tornadoes in North Carolina, but it seems to be getting common.

The fact that Dallas hasn't been hit by a violent tornado in about 50 years astonishes me even today.

The same storm that hit Wichita is predicted to come through here in a couple hours. Definitely hoping it's not headed for us.

Our news tonight showed pictures of big chunks of airplanes that had been blown into fields, from that factory that was destroyed in Wichita...I'll bet that's why they first thought that the airport had been hit.

I sure hope you've got a basement or cellar to hole up in!
