From his wife. This is a much more comprehensive update than we've seen before. She's talking about issues from the very beginning, back in January. You may be surprised at what she's saying here.A Christopher Green update:
I would like to give an overview of Chris' condition.
Chris is in J 51 room 9, his step down unit.
He still has his old bug in his trachea, and it has migrated to his new lungs. It is presently dormant. Let's hope and pray it stays that way, because we have been told it is antibiotic resistant, He currently has no infection anywhere.
He gets Physical Therapy every weekday. Their goal is to get Chris walking. He has stood, but his feet and back of his legs are very tight.
He gets dialysis 3 times a week (T, Th, Sat.). This dates back to the myriad complications from the original operations.
He continues to enjoy music therapy and play his guitar.
He has a pressure wound on his tail bone and the docs continually brainstorm what is best for Chris.
As this is the 9th month of his hospitalization, he has some depression. He has a good relationship with the pysch doc.
He is frequently tired due to dialysis, depression, etc.
This can affect his staying on the respirator. They continually wean him, and have started trying the trac collar (necessary for talking). This is very important to me because I am home bound with my broken ankle, only allowed 25-50% weight on it and not allowed to drive for 6-8 weeks. Any help with a ride to see him would be greatly appreciated. Who wants to visit him? Please consider bringing me too! Thank you!

Thanks for all the updates!

(149,517 posts)Believe me, she is. The broken ankle was just the last straw. Her spirits are good, still.
Thanks!

(52,791 posts)My dear mr banana underwent much the same. An infection led to a kidney failure, immobility led to a severe pressure wound. Sadly, a debridement of that wound required general anesthesia from which he could not recover.
It is most fortunate that WC isn't suffering from an infection at present, I pray that it stays that way.
It takes great courage and spirit to deal with the indignities of illness and my heart goes out to him and his dear wife. Is there a local DUer who can help with transportation?

(149,517 posts)I'm not aware of any DU'ers in the area who could help, but Laurie does have a number of friends who can help, and I hope they will.
I am so sorry for your loss, my dear annabanana...

(19,558 posts)I'm sure not getting to see his wife as often (I had no idea she had a broken ankle, how sad!) isn't helping the matter any. I hope she's able to work out rides to the hospital on a very regular basis. It'll be good for both of them.
I do hope they're able to manage the complications from his lack of sufficient mobility. This is always one of the biggest issues when you have a long convalescing period such as he's been going through. The good news is he's not suffering from from an infection! This is great to hear.
My thoughts are with them both and I wish them both the best of outcomes.

(135,425 posts)Please give him DU's best wishes when you see him. Is he able to log on to a computer and surf around? Maybe even a little skyping would cheer him up...?
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,517 posts)The last I heard about his laptop was that it wasn't working, so surfing the net, skyping etc. cannot happen now.
I know it would help him if he could.
