had an encounter with a racist client and wanted to vent. It's just a post about a personal experience, not a news article. People have been fired for venting about such things and including enough details for someone to figure out who they are. I don't blame the OP for not wanting to give too many details. The specific company and city are not relevant to me.

Mostly sedan and courier services.

Lady calls up and wants a ride to the airport. Easy sell, nice commision, give her a rate, get her pickup information.

She asks me who her driver is. I don't know. I just input the order and a dispatcher for whichever company ends up with it does the rest.

She then asked the question "Can you send an American driver?". I wasn't quite sure what she was asking, so I asked for clarification. "Can you send a white driver?". I was white hot. I put her on hold for a few seconds while I calmed down, then gave her a "No" answer in the most professional manner possible.

I suppose I could consider that at least she is an honest bigot, unlike the dog whistle of modern racism. But no. That request is bullshit in 2014.

She's gonna get whoever she gets. I just sell the transportation, I don't assign it. And I am not going to put something as disgusting as "Please send a white driver to this ignorant individual" on a ride form.

Why is not wanting a male or transgendered driver any more acceptable than not wanting a black driver?

I suppose that still is not proof of ethnicity.

My apologies about not being more forthcoming in details. Probably shouldn't have even put up the post. It's just sometimes you hear something that is SO BACKWARDS, so insanely bigoted, you gotta vent. And venting to other customers is not an option.

I allowed myself to slip into the mode of who of our probable callers I would expect to say something like that.

I have removed that reference. Lesson learned: Never post when I am upset. There is no such thing as "good" bigotry against the "right" people.

People from South and Central America are more open about their racism. It's not seen as something shameful in other cultures.

We might think it's the default to be ashamed by racism but worldwide it's more rare.

The desire to be accepted as part of the privileged class is a huge reason other minorities pick up these prejudices. To fit in. It's disgusting, but it happens.
