From spending time here in Arizona, my constituents are not comforted, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) told State of the Union host Candy Crowley Sunday morning. There has to be more reassurance given to them. I would say that we dont know exactly whos in charge. There has to be some kind of czar.

So what you're saying, John, is that we need a physician commissioned by the government and entrusted with public health responsibilities? Maybe someone who could head up a corps of medical officers who are on call 24 hours a day and prepared to be dispatched in the event of a public health emergency. A general of surgeons, one might say. Heck, John, lets just call him/her the Surgeon General of the United States.
Why don't we have an Ebola 'czar,' Sen. McCain? Because of the NRA.

(37,158 posts)He wants one of them 'czar' thingies, and everyone knows Obama invented them to pay tribute to his socialist mentor Saul Alinsky!
In lieu of a sarcasm tag, I'll just note that I made the very same arguments the teabaggers have against 'czars' -- back in 1989, about 'Drug Czar' William Bennett. The general response was "lighten up kid, it's just a word for the headlines. It's shorter and catchier than 'Director of the Office of yadda yadda zzzzzzzz'."
Fair enough, but it underscored how the people complaining about 'czars' under Obama were either deliberately stirring shit or simply hadn't paid attention to public affairs for a quarter century.

But 2 cases of Ebola and we need a Czar?
Dude, don't we even already have some sort of Health Czar for that already? Not to mention a Cabinet position Secretary of Health and Human Service.
I think we need a Constitutional Amendment that says We The People get to start voting on what Czars we need. And I'd like to start with Czar on the housing crisis in major urban areas, thank you very much. Or how about a Police Violence Czar. Isn't it obvious we need that one?
Frak you and your failure to observe what really goes on in real communities in the United States John McCain.
