On another matter that has been the subject of much political babbling lately a potential third run for president by her husband Ann Romney was happy to wave off the possibility.
Done, she said. Completely. Not only Mitt and I are done, but the kids are done, she said, referring to her five sons. Done. Done. Done.
Asked whether there were any circumstances under which she would encourage the former Massachusetts governor to attempt another run or if she would support him if he wanted to run she said she hadn't been pushed to that point mentally, but that they would make the decision together.
She reeled off a long list of what she called really interesting potential Republican contenders, including former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman and her husbands 2012 choice for vice president, Rep. Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin.
Were going to see a nice field shake out.

Same thing with Hillary.

(15,031 posts)He's one of the few "not-totally-insane" Republicans.
The GOP powers that be know that he probably won't get any more votes than he got last time around. But they feel that their voter suppression tactics will let him slip through.
Not to mention that they've probably repaired their Ohio machine and can now ensure an easy (stolen) victory there. -- 2004 all over again.

(63,901 posts)the problem I had with that candidacy. The thought that MIchelle and the girls would have to pack up and leave the White House while Ann comes prancing in with all her talk about "you people" ---
horrifying...
Please, Ann, do your best to dissuade Mitt from running...threaten to leave him if need be...we must be spared you and him...

(82,849 posts)Mrs. Romney strikes me as the type who seeks social advancement, and as she has scaled the heights of the financial world, she is now looking to top the political world. But she doesn't like to look like she's seeking advancement, so it will be up to the Republican party apparatus to lay out the path to coronation. There will also be fewer appearances by Mrs. Romney in the media, unless the campaign can exercise a lot more control over the questions and answers. Too often she looked like the pampered china doll, in part due to her MS. She also made a lot of unforced errors (the "you people" type comments, wearing the $800 designer t-shirt, etc.) because she isn't accustomed to scrutiny.

(63,901 posts)I don't. She now lives in a bubble....everything is lovely, no problems, no harsh criticisms, wonderful social life...everything she ever wanted.
She is going to give that up for a miserable campaign of brutal schedules and talking with "you people"?
I think she's been there, done that.

(82,849 posts)She didn't want to go through it the first time. But if it's handed to her on a silver platter, with other people doing the heavy lifting and pouring their sweat and toil into the effort, she'll gladly accept it. I think Mitt's egotistical enough to want to have another go at the presidency, but if he does, Ann will be well shielded this time around.

(63,901 posts)I also think she had wounds from criticism about her elitist attitudes and I truly don't think she regards those attitudes as elitist. To her, it is just the way "things are."
She is not healthy enough to assume the duties of the First Lady and she knows it. My guess is that she spends a lot of time resting now, as it is. The glare and the sheer energy required to be first lady would be out of the question for Ann Romney.

(32,045 posts)she likes her lifestyle and doesn't want to be under the camera. It should go the way she prefers if the GOP can get Jeb to run. He's the obvious choice along with perpetual sidekick Ryan.
And we the voters get Hillary vs. Jeb. Choice!

(81,199 posts)I would actually worry, A LOT, if wrongney decided to try again. There's too much buyers' remorse against President Obama out there. It'd be fully unleashed if mitt tried again, and he could even play the victim who was denied his "rightful place" in the Oval Office by that scheming black guy. That is how it WOULD be portrayed. And he'd probably get in next time. ICK.
On the other hand, I appreciate what ann romney is apparently about to do, funding a research center for neurological diseases. When the uber-rich use some of their money for the greater good, I can certainly get behind that. Seems to me that's what such massive amounts of personal wealth are FOR. Same reason I'm happy that Mr. Facebook and his wife are plunking multiple millions into Ebola vaccine research. That's what obscene amounts of personal wealth are FOR.
I mean, REALLY. How many cars can you buy? How many diamonds can you wear? How many boats can you float around in? How many car elevators do you need? How many houses can you live in at any one time? How many "second homes" do you really need? Seriously? If you have THAT kind of money, seems to me, you're just simply OBLIGATED to those less fortunate. If you've got hundreds of millions of dollars and all kinds of tax shelters and advantages, You. Are. OBLIGATED. That's what that kind of fortune is FOR. Keep some for yourself of course, but dammit, put the rest of it to work for the greater good!
