And what was your experience?
I drove on it last Sunday on a trip to see family and friends. I knew it was a toll road.
But when I got to the first toll booth, it was blocked off and there was a sign for charges for two-axle vehicles and others on a flashing billboard. My first thought was that they will ask for payment at the next toll booth? But the same was blocked again?? There was no sign or explanation??
So, when we got to our destination, we were informed by family that they got us on a camera and they would send us a bill for about $18 for our short trip on the toll road. I felt like I had been ripped off and robbed. Also, they said if I did not pay it, then I would get a fine for about
$75-$80...
I have yet to get the bill from them and I have yet to decide what I will do about it. Anyone else been on this road?

(102,228 posts)And, because I never saw a functioning toll station, I didn't realize how much the cost incurred and drove it three more times back and forth from N. Colorado to the airport without realizing. YES, they DO bill you. Unfortunately, I'd also moved and so it was some time before it caught up with me. By then I had lots of late fees too.
It sucks.

(1,438 posts)Got distracted and took the wrong exit, so I wound up on it for a mile. Got a bill for $3 a few weeks later, which said that if I didn't pay in a certain amount of time would jump to $100.

You'll get the bill soon enough. I'd pay it if I were you...

(10,794 posts)The toll rate on E-470, roughly 33 cents per mile, is one of the highest rates of any toll road in the United States
Simply for information in the thread.

(14,075 posts)It cost about $5.00 in tolls to get to the airport; but it was worth it because the cost kept the traffic down - actually the drive was traffic-free. A friend told me about a year ago that they had closed the toll booths and you had to have a pass on your car. I haven't been on it since.

(135,425 posts)I guess the answer to that little problem is to make sure you've got some lovely mud on your license plate so the numbers cannot be read!!!
I have no plans to visit CO any time soon, but if I ever do I will be sure to avoid that road!

(111,079 posts)Your state will not give your registration info to the state of Colorado so you get to drive free, meaning a lot of money is lost by having cameras instead of humans.

(4,876 posts)She took C-470 to the airport. There was no one manning the toll booths and no way to make change so she cruised on through. Next thing you know we got a ticket in the mail for 30 bucks.

(1 post)A statement for your toll usage will be mailed approximately 30 days after you use the road and will be addressed to the address listed on your vehicle's registration regardless of what state you live in. If you fear the bill will not arrive to your current address because you have moved or have not updated your address on your registration, you may call us at 303-537-3470 or email us at customerservice@expresstoll.com and we can look up your transactions for you. Provided that the tolls are paid within 30 days of the first statement, no fees will be assessed. Feel free to visit our website at www.expresstoll.com if you have further questions. Thank you.

(111,079 posts)Other states give you information on automobiles registered in their states? I heard that they did not.

(1,039 posts)I took it last year on vacation to avoid Denver traffic. I liked not having to stop for toll booths. I think my bill was something like $9, which seemed pretty reasonable. Despite my having Texas plates, they had no trouble sending me a bill. I paid it online. The only thing that really annoyed me was that started sending me e-mail spam after that. Do they seriously think that someone that drove their road once and lives 1,000 miles away wants a monthly newletter from them?
I would prefer that we standardize on a better way to handle toll road billing. I'd like a device that I can move from car-to-car. I'd like it to be recognized anywhere in the country (or world, but let's start with country). I'd like to be able to use it with any car (in case I'm in a rental). I'd like to be able to turn it off so that if two of us are in a car together, we don't both get billed. Also, by being able to turn it off, it can't be used as a tracking device when I don't want to be tracked.
I had an incident in Florida on another trip last year. My car rental company sent me a bill for $25 for a $1 toll they claim I didn't pay. For $25, it wasn't worth fighting over, but it annoyed me. They need a better way to handle rental car tolls, especially in a tourist area like Orlando.

(11,451 posts)I think they came up with it instead of raising taxes to pay for the roads. Especially in the states where republicans have signed that stupid pledge they skirt around it.
