ABC News also reporting in comparing EBOLA Virus to HIV: Ebola is far more powerful

Last edited Tue Oct 14, 2014, 07:39 PM - Edit history (1)

HIV contains 1 million virus particles per milliliter
Ebola contains 10 billion virus particles per milliliter

The concentration is why it is far more contagious.

Also that the Black Plague was so similar to conditions we see in those with ebola, they believe they are actually one and the same.

sorry no link..will try to find it.

1. More "powerful" in what way, exactly? Leave it to the MSM to

use inappropriate, confusing non-medical terminology. Sigh.

Bodily fluids from an Ebola patient have a higher concentration of virus particles than bodily fluids from an HIV patient. It's a good start, but at what stage of the infections are they talking about?

Plenty of HIV patients have zero detectable virus because they take their meds. Early in Ebola, patients have a very low viral load. The high number is near or after death.

Sorry. The Black Plague was PLAGUE and not ebola. Plague comes in 3 forms: bubonic, pneumonic, and septicemic.

4. Here's what I can find as to the Black Death/Ebola comparison.

snip ..Controversial new research suggests that contrary to the history books, the "Black Death" that devastated medieval Europe was not the bubonic plague, but rather an Ebola-like virus.

snip... Ebola-Like Symptoms Cited

In their new book Biology of Plagues: Evidence from Historical Populations, Duncan and Scott compare the signs and symptoms of the Black Death with modern-day viruses such as the Spanish flu, the West Nile virus and, most closely, Ebola.

Medieval descriptions of the Black Death sound like the hemorrhagic fever caused by an Ebola-like virus, the authors say. Such fever strikes fast and causes blood vessels to burst underneath the skin, bringing out welts, similar to what British medical texts from the Middle Ages describe as "God's tokens."

Yes this article is from July 30. However I find it interesting. Take it for what it is worth to you.

6. I'd be interested in what true experts on both plague and ebola thought of it.

Maybe there has been a discussion on This week in Virology or This Week in Microbiology. Wish TWIM had a topic search function like TWIV.

8. Not fearmongering at all. Not what my post is intended to be.

This is something I find interesting since the comparison is made, from a time when our Health Technology was not what it is today.

It is possible to read a comparision like this one and simple note the similarities & differences with the intention of nothing more than that.
I am NOT saying Ebola is the Black Death AND WE ARE ALL GONNA die!!!

I simply found it curious & interesting. Maybe others will also.
If not then you are free to leave
Thank You

5. Medical professionals pretty much have to inject themselves with some

HIV positive blood to get the virus. We seldom get if from need pricks. (Sometimes you accidentally prick yourself with a needle and push the plunger.)

I never hear about medical professionals contracting the HIV virus by cleaning a body or taking off protective gear.

I'm thinking if someone cleaned a body and wasn't wearing gloves and had cuts on their hands the could get HIV.

To me it seems very clear that it is much easier to contract the Ebola virus then HIV

But, I do think the fear mongering is way overboard.

7. But HIV spreads for sometimes years when the patient has no symptoms

That makes it a much bigger threat and the reason why it has spread and killed the numbers it has. Fortunately there are treatments to help people with HIV. Hopefully soon they will have some for Ebola also.

9. That is true. HIV can lay dormant. I do not know if there is an ebola virus dormancy.

Certainly they are not the same & I actually don't see much similarity between the two.

We have to be free to discuss the subject. What we learn about it as more is revealed is necessary.
Study, talk, dissect, compare & conclude. Its how unknowns are brought to light.

Ebola is a nasty ravaging virus & yes, hopefully there will be some treatment soon.
